I stopped smoking cold turkey 5 weeks ago after smoking all my life (from age 8). Not having an office job or routine helped; apart from being away from temptation, I was free to go for a walk at any time of the day or night during the first two days.The most positive thing I did was make http://whyquit.com/joel/ my start page for a few days, it has all the resources you need. Another thing that might help is if you go out and have some children or borrow somebody else's, and tell them you've given up smoking. The instant respect and admiration you earn will stop you from backsliding!
