Have you ever taught a friend how to do 'this'?

'this' being the avs, tgp, free site side of things. I have a friend that really wants to learn the basics and to help me a bit too but I am finding that so much of how I run my own little empire is in my head and knowledge I have accumulated over five years or so. It is sort of difficult to know where to start..what lesson number one should be.

me trying to teach usually ends up being one big long run-on sentence that does more damage than good... and my buddy bud light sure can't teach a damn thing to anybody either

I once tried to teach my cousin, who heard i was making "easy" money with adult sites, how to build an AVS site. When I started with how he should build feeder sites and stuff he slowly stood up and walked away.

Actually, last thing I heard from him was that he moved to New Zealand... I'm not that bad of a teacher...

Anyway, the first thing i'm telling people now is that it isn't that easy at all to make some serious $$$

I can remember when I first started. There is so much to learn if your a raw newb.

Learn html and code by hand. Build by hand before you start using a html editor. This takes about 4 days, anyone can learn html.

Pick a domain name and register it.

The next step would be finding a webhost.

Then learn how to make a free site.

Learn how to FTP

Get the freesite reviewed on the board before submitting.

Find places to submit your newly created site and build recip tables. Build the doorway pages.

Each one of these steps will create hurdles that most of us handle like its second nature, but it will generate tons of questions from your friend.

The natural learning process will take over from there.

i have tried to learn people that stuff, but i believe most find it easier to just copie some stuff from others, why the heck you wanna learn html and all those codes and buy content which you need to resize if you just can grab it? Bad attitude, thats not the way, learn , learn, build buildt, fall down stand up and start over again and keep learning it takes alot of time to learn well it was for me, hell i didnt know anything about html, i spend most time in the libary reading and learning.Still i had myself a teacher who learned me and i am glad he did, he is a young guy with i think alot of gray hair....quess from who he got those

I've never tried to teach anyone else this biz, most of my friends don't even know that I do adult sites, but I have taught a couple of people how to use Dreamweaver. If they both weren't already well versed in computer fundamentals I wouldn't have even tried.

I've taught a lot of people how to write mainstream pages, been pretty successful at it. I've taught people how to play the guitar. It's easier to teach someone the guitar than it is to teach a computer novice how to write a webpage.

It is not easy to teach someone from scratch. If they have some computer skills it might not be so bad. It seems like the ones that want to learn the biz are those who think the job is a sit-at-home-behind-the-computer job who have no clue about what we actually do. They equate what they do behind the computer to what we must be doing.

I would start with asking him questions about his knowledge of the biz. Was he a surfer? Does he know what a gallery is, what a sponsor is? etc.

he has sat and watched me work and knows roughly what I do...I guess I should start him on a small project. I think I might just start him day one with making some grapics since it is the most repetitive thing next to submitting that he will have to do.

In my opinion, it is a lot of trial and error. You have to get your feet wet and run with it. It would be difficult for anyone to teach the day to day.

Agreed, that will come with experience.

Sarah, probably a good place to start. Most people like to learn hands on and graphics helps stimulate the interest.

I have been trying to teach a friend, started him right away on freesites, after about a month, he's up to 20 + sites. He's doing better than I expected.

I was going to teach a friend that almost got scammed into investing $8K to buy a turnkey paysite. Fortuneately I stopped him by telling what I do and that I could help him. Things never progressed from there.

To start someone off the best thing to do is free sites I think. It's easy to do. From there, maybe TGP and a hub of some sort.

When I was required to show new people at my old job how we worked. It was simple for me. I explained to them to set there computer up next to mine and do what I tell them. I gave them the software we used and 1st month placed them on their own lan so they could not destroy anything. I then told them to mess with the software. Press every button and try to break something. It worked pretty well. After about a month they would pick up what was going on. An then I would let them on the real network after 30 days of explaining. do not press that button remember you did a dos attak when you were on the other lan. well dont do that here cause you will be put in jail. lol It made them go really slow and after about 6 more months they were not to bad. Worste part of teaching is when you really have to do something and someone sitting next to you is asking questions about something non-related to what you are doing. Oh an hello everyone sorry not here for a few days. Site shit all day.

Hi Sarah, you are everywhere!!! I have to admit I'm not the best teacher. I'm great at giving advice but I have a very puppy-like brain pattern. I'm easily distracted by shiny objects and don't think in a linear fashion. LOL!

I think teaching people how to do this is what I do best.

"Those that can, do. And those that can't, teach. And those that can't teach, teach gym."

Wait... But that doesn't apply to me. I Actually can, and I teach. If I just learned how to dance, I'd be a triple threat.

I used to teach new technology to people all over the world. They were business people that needed to know what I was teaching. I've tried to teach a few friends that have asked but it was useless. They generally couldn't focus on work unless someone was pushing them for deadlines and they often got way too excited about the content.

I'm not sure that I will ever attempt to teach someone about this business unless they already work for themselves and have the computer skills needed.
