And Lord, we are especially thankful for nuclear power, the cleanest, safest
energy source there is. Except for solar, which is just a pipe dream |
Is that true?
I have read something in the newspaper today I want to ask someone from the USA about. Is that true, that you can not change your baby's diapers in public, and that even small kids can not be naked on the beaches? I am just curious

Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-tip!

I'm not from the US.. so I'm really not sure about this..
but I think its true.. I think you are also not allowed to brest-feed your child in public.. women are not allowed top-less on the beach (white boobs all over the US ;-)) .. Your also not allowed to drink a beer under the age of 21.. but you may purchase fire arms (ok.. not in all states) and drive a car.. There also is no law that a motorcycle rider has to wear a helmet.. kids have to when riding a bike... strange laws (I'm sure we have some weird ones in austria too)

Though laws vary from state to state, in New York changing a baby is fine, I've never heard of a problem with toddlers running naked on the beach, breast feeding is fine, children must wear bicycle helmets, motorcyclists must wear helmets, it is legal for women to be topless in New York, but no one does, driving age is 16, drinking age is 21. America was settled by Puritans and the laws were created by insurance companies.

Yeah, each state, county, and city has its own laws so saying "The United States" is a pretty broad question.

Actually in that newspaper was even written America, not just USA Those were some warnings what people should beware of when going to vacations. Most people "from the outside" are seeing USA to be one country, not thinking about states or counties. Ok, thank you guys for clarifying that to me.

To give you an idea of how tight ass this country is. Down in FLA a few years back there were these girls who opened up a hotdog stand on a busy street and they were wearing the standard uniform (thong bikini) for that location, I think Ft lad or mami. Not sure of the local but it was one of the beach communities. Well the girls were rolling in the money. They were hot, handing penis shaped food and dressed nearly nude, surly they would make $$$. Anyway I think there was a law made that stated something like you can not wear a thongs and sell hotdogs or something like that. Its just crazy here. Why cant the aliens come down and kill us all so we can start something new?

juggernaut - that I believe was Tampa - and out to St Pete
And as far as laws in the US - Fido - most states make their own laws - the US tries to stay out of it except when it infringes on their own revenue - like the recent Supreme Court ruling on pot |

I'm in Fort Lauderdale where thongs at the beach are banned but not actually enforced. We don't have anyplace that we can go nude or even topples. If I go just ten miles south of me I'm in Miami which has a nude beach as well as many topples beaches.

One US law I like is that you can't drink alcohol on the street. I really hate those smelly homeless people sitting in front of every store drinking cheap wine.

You can drink on the street here as long as it is in a paper bag or in a cup.

Actually - its usually included (puking that is) in the misdemeanor parts of the laws against drunken in public - and is part of the defecation, urination clause.
Its also listed in Canada and UK laws as a vilation |

Laws that deal with alcohol, public nudity, helmets, seat belts and how fire arms are purchased are all local affairs. Usually these are governed by the states but the counties/cities/towns can add additional laws as long as they don't contridict the state laws.
I think drinking is 21 in all states now but I was able to drink at 18 If a women needs to breast feed she should make some effort to be discreet and the same for changing diapers. I can't imagine someone being arrested for taking care of a child unless it was attracting a lot of attention. |

You know what's funny? Everyone once in a while you'll hear a news story about a breastfeeding mom being asked not to do that in a mall by security. The next day the mall will have a sit-in protest by about 40-50 breastfeeding moms. I love peaceful protest. I can't imagine why anyone would be offended by breastfeeding, but then again, I'm not a republican.
