Where Can I buy a good custom built computer?

Heya Guys and Gals,

I had my 2 computers die on me and I am tired of fixing things. I need a good place to get a computer that I can tell them what I need and they will build it. I don't want a mainstream place like Dell or HP/Compaq so spam away with your links!!! Thanks Also if you get a referral bonus from the company and need me to drop your name then let me know.

I build all my own..it's really not hard
If you get your hardware from pricewatch.com and sometimes ebay, you can build a sweet system for about 1/3 - 1/2 less than someone would charge you because they charge for the hardware and hourly rate to build it.

A little while ago I finished building an AMD water-cooled processor, dual video card system for my boyfriend because he is a gamer and has not had a new pc in years. It's a sweet machine and would probably go for around 8K on if built by alien becaue all components are top of the line and I got them from pricewatch.com very cheaply.

Yeah I too build my own - I can go to the local PC supply store and buy a non vender case with a 400 watt power supply for 40 - 50 bucks that will accept almost any mother board - except a mini atx board and then I shop for the best prices online for the rest of the hardware..

when you buy a vendor pc only there mother boards will fit there cases..

also never buy a board with intergrated video as it harder to upgrade the video .. my next upgrade I think I will buy a DVI video card to use my DVI port on my 18 mits LCD... and the thing with video cards is that they keep making them better and that makes the price go down..

I honestly head over to pricewatch.com and just look around. You can find some good an bad deals there but should give you a good starting point.

Cleo's Mac putty knife skills also rank up there very highly.

I'll go back to my hole.

Yep, another self builder here

Not difficult at all these days...and you get exactly whay you want in the machine. Built this one two years ago...still the fastest most stable machine I've ever used.

Oh, I purchase most of my puter stuff from Newegg. Good prices and excellent delivery times

The thing about building your own computer is that you need some clue about what you're doing. You guys say it's easy, but thats' probably because you already know something about it. With an online vendor you can pretty much trust that everything is compatible, and if it's not I know who to yell at and demand a refund.

Thanks for al the help .. looks like building my own may work, but like Lemmy said "you need some clue about what you're doing" I have been in the computer industry since a young age but I am still not 100% sure I can get all the pieces I need and make sure they are all compatable. I am gonna give it a try and see what I can come up with though.

I checked out all the links and got some ideas from there to and GunnCat ..... I WISH I could get one of those!! Absolutely beautiful machines. I am on a tight budget because of a very messed up ex who can't get herself together and stop abusing and neglecting our kids so I am spending pretty much all my money (and my wife's) on legal expenses. But hopefully soon I will be the proud owner of one of those "TOP END" computers

Nice man. Go to Newegg.com and setup a computer. Save it to your wishlist then post the link here and we can advice you from there if you like. Making PCs are easy. I used to do that before I got into this business. Just need some patience. Good luck Gideon.

The only thing you really need to be concerned with as far as compatibility goes is your motherboard and processor ( proper slot/socket ). That and make sure your ram can do whatever bus speed your processor runs at. Everything else is just get whatever the fuck you want but avoid cheap shit. Figure out whats popular, figure out why its popular, decide from there. Newegg.com rocks.

Lemmy the first computer I built I did`nt know shit to start. Of course that`s usually how most learning begins. But then you are no longer a pawn to vendors. Like adult webmastering. Not many people come into it with the skills already.

Anyone I`d recommend was mentioned already. Tiger Direct has a big selection of stuff and I`ve ordered from them before. Just watch out for substituted brands when they run out. Though they refund just as easy.

I loaned my rotary hammer drill to the guy running some cable for my neighbor. While using it he cut through the romex wire that was in the wall knocking out a good part of his house. He said that it was my fault because a woman should not own a drill like that.

How can you argue with logic like that?

So..you did tell him OOps..so sorry..I thought you said it was for your wife to use. If I'd have known YOU wanted to use it, I'd have cautioned you about the FOR WOMEN ONLY warning on the label..
