HELP!!!!!
If this belongs in a different category....sorry feel free to move.
Ok heres the deal, a buddy of mine came over today to try and help me clean up my comp. Long story short: Hooked up his harddrive to backup my files,folders etc. and was going to reformat my hard drive. Unfortunately it wiped out his harddrive instead. His harddrive had pics/movies of his son and other important things. Is there any way to recover these files and why would it have wiped out his when it was setup as the slave and not the master? |

Oh man...that so blows Binxgook
 Especially since I don't think there is a way to recover data from a formatted drive. Once a drive is formatted...it's a clean slate. There may be some high tech recovery company that I'm not aware of...but IF there is...it's probably gonna cost a bundle. Really sorry for the bad news As to why it happened, hard to say for sure. There are so many nuances to working on computers...could have been anything from accidently selecting the wrong drive for formatting...to not having the master/slave relationship correct. Or, something else entirely... Doesn't help you now, but I'd strongly recommend buying an external usb drive for backups. Drive space is cheap these days...and it's good peace of mind to know your data is safe. Again, really sorry man...wish I could be more help |

Sure you can, check at download.com
The files are only truly gone when you fill up the harddrive with new stuff overwriting the old data. |

there are lots of programs available on the net.. for example this one.. I've never used it or any other one, so really can't tell you anything about it

I accidentally erased the folder that had all my pics once and Recover My Files got them all back. Unfortunately not with the original filename, pain in the ass to figure out what pics that were shot where after that. But I managed to save them all

Well, just goes to show...ya learn something new everyday.
I knew there was software to recover data that was simply deleted. But, didn't think there was anything to recover a formatted drive. I stand corrected...sorry for the mis-information Binxgook Thanks much for the info everyone  |
