Got Something worth trackbacking?
If you're not familiar with blog trackbacking, by now, you should be. there are countless articles on this forum about what they do and what they are but a short summary here.
If you write an article that another author likes, they can link to your article and use your trackback url to automatically create a linkback to their article about your article. Anyways, search engines love it. If ya need more in depth info, post in this forum or use the search project. Anyways, Got something worth trackbacking? I'm always looking for good blogs that write real articles, of particular interest. Things that people would actually enjoy reading. Or extremely nice picture layouts and galleries and movies or reviews or whatever. As long as you think its trackbackable. So this thread is for two purposes. 1) If you've got a blog that's not just a spam blog that people might want to trackback, post it here. 2) if you've written a particular article you're proud of and want to get some exposure, post it here, so people can be made aware and trackback it. Any takers? |

Kids are great, Appu. You can teach them to hate the things you hate and they practically raise themselves now-a-days, you know, with the internet and all

Good idea . . . however, I think you may have missed a rather important part of trackbacks.
First off, if you think hardlink trades are good, they have nothing compared to trackbacks. The trackback is the ultimate recip. While many blog scripts offer the trackback option, many are now including the 'nofollow' tag. Blogger started it, and many followed in kind. Before I would ever do a trackback to anyone, look at someone else's comment or trackback that was done prior. View the page source, and so a search for nofollow. If you get a match, move along. Wordpress started including the nofollow tag when they released 1.5, however, there is a plugin you can install for the 'dofollow' tag. If you don't have it, I highly suggest you do. If the spider isn't going to follow the links back to your blog, there really isn't much point in doing a trackback unless that guys blog gets "mad views." JMHO, of course. |

I've got some anal sex information articles in this blog that might qualify...
http://www.analsextips.net/ Anyhow, it's real writing. I'm trying to post a real article about once a week. I did install do-follow, but I haven't gotten the permanent urls in the best format yet. So much to do, so little time. |

Baddog is right, you need to make sure that your blog does not use 'nofollow' tags. If you're using wordpress you can uninstall "dofollow" as instructed above.
Bill, here is the code i use under permalinks /%postname%.html some folks use /%postname%/ and if your post names are usually pretty long maybe /%category%/%postID%/ is better for you. ![]() |

I've played with the permalink settings in options, and I understand the principle.
But I think the problem I am having is with the htaccess, if my research is correct. I think I need to use a modified htaccess to get it to work. But, I just haven't gotten to fixing the htaccess. Maybe I'll get the time to mess with it later on tonight. I actually tried trackbacking to boogies blog in one of the posts on this blog, the 2257 post near the bottom of the page. I posted about this in an earlier blogs and blogging post. But, blog novice that I am, I wasn't sure that I did it right, and suspect I did it wrong. |

Bill, if you chmod your htaccess to 777, wordpress will do it for you automatically.
bill, not sure I got the trackback so maybe we got it wrong. I'm gonna write up a new guide on it soon |

Okay, I was able to fix the permalink problem I was having with that blog - it was just a matter of applying some attention.
I uploaded a basic htaccess, chmoded it 777, and then the script accepted the permalink change and wrote the new htaccess and pages with more se friendly permalinks. So, show us an example of a trackback worthy post, Boogie, and a trackback in action. |

Ok bill here is a basic walkthrough. For example in the bloging universe people will see an article about a person and decided to write about themselves under the same context, so here I answered a question:
http://www.boogie-blog.com/why-do-yo...hat-you-do.htm Lets say you want to answer the same question on your blog, but want to let people know where you got the idea (and also get a linkabck for free) You'll look for the trackback url on the page, in thise case its in the grey 'metadata' box. you can usually F-search for "track" to find it. the url is: http://www.boogie-blog.com/why-do-yo...htm/trackback/ Now when writing your article you might say "I was over at (link to boogie-blog) and I saw this article (Linked to the article)... i wanted to discuss this matter" Then in your blog script you include the URL in the "trackback" field. What this does is when you publish your article, it will alert my blog that someone is talkin about my entry and create an automated comment that will link back to your site, quote your site, and help get you readers from my article. ![]() |
