Am I better than Jolene?

A few weeks ago I came across askjolene.com. I liked what it had to offer, but I've never been a fan of the ask jeeves/jolene, style site, nor of their layout..

I decided. wtf. I could probably do better than that. and here I am:

I'm pretty pleased with what I've got so far. It's running about 80%.. The remaining 20% is the webmaster side, so I'm looking for a review of the user side.

Actually it looks good. So a user can go in and add their own galleries in like partners or paid accounts? Any site can be good if it has traffic. AskJoene does so that is key.

The script you are using to list galleries. Did you build it? But it?

I think it looks pretty good. Plenty of variety to choose from so you'll appeal to a lot of surfers, and if you can do a mod_rewrite with the various categories then SEs should love you after a while.

Not sure about the graphical style, looks a bit too... clean. Sex it up a bit :p

It looks more like a TGP than a search engine to me. Also the cats in /galleries/ like "Medical" and "Country" doesn't make much sense and feels too spammy. Clicking on "sailer" pulls lesbian/hentai galleries that seem completely unrelated to that word.

Building a site aimed for bookmark traffic requires that it be both user friendly and SE optimized. You don't want the site to die on you if Google/yahoo gets fickle.

lol. No like the "ask jolene", "ask jeeves", actually especially jolene taking the rip from jeeves.

I'm currently working on the webmasters section.. you can add galleries,etc.. Users will be able to do that as well...

seo is my background, so beleive me that is always one of my top priorities... With regards to the categories they are there rather for testing more than anything, and I had them from a past project...Probably will remove them, as yes at currenty they aren't doing much for relativity...

And yes I built this entire thing from scratch, and have a bot running 24*7 getting new galleries...

Hold your mouse over the thumbnail, and watch... It's bawling.. It's going to take a few days to update all of the galleries for this, but I think it's worth the server space/ bandwith.. Let me know what you think.

Now Only a million more thumbnails to make..

Too slow an effect and I don't think many people would care or even notice it... if they liked the pic they'd click it straight away, and not hover over it.

Could adapt it so galleries simply do a basic rollover change instead of a delayed one, but it'd still slow everything down.

*goes around bashing webmasters who think everyone's on zippy fast broadband*

You might be right about the broadband and that, but that is like the age old 800*600 design question. I'm on the edge where I'm going to assume that most people looking at alot of adult material, especially thumb galleries,etc. are on broadband.
