I'd been nearsighted & wearing glasses or contacts since I was 8. 1st surgery corrected me to 50/20, which was a HUGE improvement over my 400/20 "legally blind without glasses" past.

I went in for my yearly check-up & they said they could do it again (at a discount) and now I'm down to 25/20 & I don't even remember what it was like to wake up with my contacts still in

I wear progressive lenses too.. and actually I've got "diabetic cataracts"... but like a level 1 on a scale of 1-10.. the MD said if I wait I can get lasik to correct my sight when they do the cataracts but it will be a long time...

I have a pair of "computer" glasses... they really help my vision when I'm at the PC...

In general, my vision isn't great b/c of my diabetes..

That is about what I am, I thought about just having my left eye done, since I don't have the adies pupil in that eye, and my astigmatism is so bad, I can't wear contacts very well, they tend to shift and go out of focus. Funny, my eye with the adies pupil, I can wear a contact and see about 1,000 times better than glasses, go figure.

GG, how bad is that surgery? I just figure watching a laser beam zapping your eye and I can't picture holding still for that procedure.

I hate the adies pupil, develped it in my 20s when I looked in the mirror and saw my right pupil dialated and my left pinpoint. Thought for sure I had a brain tumor. I couldn't read with my right eye, can't stand bright light. It takes that eye about 5x as long to adjust to light changes as my left eye. It calmed down finally, but if I cover my left eye, my right eye will dialate like it is covered...it is a real bitch trying to get my eye corrected to normal vision, because the pupil just doesn't want to react right. Fortunately, being left handed, I'm left "eyed" too so I don't notice how fuzzy the vision is in that eye unless my left eye is blocked by something.

Looking back, it wasn't bad at all. They numb up your eyes & all you really see is a bright red light/dot. The rest of the day is horrible if you see any bright light & you have to wear goggles when you sleep for a few days so that you don't rub your eyes.

6 hours of moderate pain followed by 3 or 4 days of being annoyed followed by years & years of not having to worry about glasses or contacts is well worth it IMHO.

I know it would be worth it, I'm a bit chicken in as far that if they screw up my left eye with the surgery, I'm fucked because my right eye depends on my left eye to see, so I'd be blind for real. But I think the success rate is a lot higher now then when it first came out. I'd so love to not wear glasses all the time. I have nightmares about my glasses breaking and being blind, kinda like that one twilight episode.

I also didn't know they could do it again if you eye site changes, so maybe they could even fix my aides eye.
