Bought a honda pilot today - Simoniz question
Anyone know anything about Simoniz system 5 protection. 400 bucks at the dealer just sounds pricy. Comes with a 5 year warranty, but it seems to me, that is a far stretch.
What would you recommend for the best car wax on a new car these days? My hubby and I are total newbies when it comes to car care. ![]()

Congrats on the new wheels
![]() Being that I invariably end up with black vehicles, the products I use work best on dark colors. Been using Mequires High Tech Yellow #26 for the past several years. Goes on easy and rubs back off easy...leaving a nice glossy 'wet looking' shine. If the vehicle isn't garaged, it needs to be re-applied every 3 months or so. If it starts to oxidize slightly, Meguires swirl remover works pretty well. To get something that lasts longer when exposed to the elements 24/7, you'll probably need to use a product that doesn't go on or rub off as easily as the Meguires...but has much better durability. Now a caveat...I haven't really looked into what's available for the past few years. It's very possible there's something new that lasts longer and goes on like a breeze. You might want to try a few searches for forums dedicated to your model. Bet you'd find tons of information on what's actually working best for owners of your model car ![]() Added: Forgot to mention, I'd steer clear of the Simoniz protection for $400. When I bought my truck in 02, the dealer tried to sell me their version of what you're talking about (name escapes me atm). Anyway, because my truck is black...they insisted I should get this 'protection'...at a cost of $750. Long story short, I did have em do the work...but THEY paid for it ![]() Everything I've ever read about those dealer applied paint protection products is that they certainly don't do any damage. But, they're nothing but a HUGE profit center for the dealer and provide no more protection than regular maintenance done by the owner. Honda vehicles have pretty good fit and finish, take your new ride home...give it a bath and a wax job and enjoy it ![]() Last edited by MrYum; 2006-05-15 at 08:55 PM.. |

![]() I just googled Meguires yellow #26. Sounds great hun, going to give it a try, since it will be "garaged" as well. Quote:

As a former new car manager - I would agree that it's a nice profit center. However, our store was in Rochester MN, most customers worked at either the Mayo Clinic or IBM. They simply didn't have time to wax or any other maintenaince. We would pick up their cars from their work just to change oil.
If you have the time to apply yourself Macquires is the way to go. Though if you have kids and you have cloth interior, the high pressure scotch guard is definately worth it... should be like 200.00 but will last the life of the car. (the 10.00 spray cans you can buy don't penetrate the fabric far enough) Good luck with the wheels - sold Hondas for 12 years ![]()

Excellent choice on the black paint! Nothing looks better than black...when it's clean, BUT nothing gets dirty faster
![]() Agree with Dare...Honda builds solid vehicles, you should get many years of service out of the new ride ![]() |
