Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

Just Curious
Here's an interesting question...Out of all the programs you promote, what do you like best about the features in their affiliate site? What features would you like to see?
Let's hear it |

The only thing I have ever really wanted to see, I believe is impossible. Greenie and I talked about this some time ago. But, if there was a way to track where traffic was coming from not only from the link on the webmaster's site but the link they took to get there. It would have to involve a browser's history and I would imagine that if it were possible, someone would have done it by now.
Just in case I'm not clear...here is how it would work. A webmaster builds a free site and submits it to 3 link lists. The site gets a few hundred hits one day and on that day, someone buys a membership. It would be great to know which linklist sent the person that bought the membership. Like I said, it probably isn't possible. But wouldn't it be nice if it were? |

1. Keep track of referer URL, timestamp, IP when a surfer hits a free site page using PHP (that way HTML stays sqeaky clean). 3. Sponsor records the IP when a sale is made. Add 2 and 2 together and its pretty easy to figure out where a surfer came from.

@Jeanette
1. For me, the main thing is content. just having sets of 12 pics available to download are an immense help. I never liked promoting a site with content that isnt on the site, thats where i get into the 1:1000 ratios. but if i can use some of the content from the site to promote it, thats when ratios seem to get alot better. Of course make sure that the main icing on the cake stays in the members area, like lightspeed, they have a gigantic amount of free content, but they leave all the movies and most totally nude shots for members only. 2. hosted galleries, obviously 3. I definitly LOVE to see a forum, if an affiliate site has a forum, then most likely at first glance of said affiliate, you can be pretty sure they dont rip off webmasters, and you can get help from other webmasters as well, promoting the sites. 4. i like to see referring url's for my sales! most sponsors do this, but a few dont and secondly, i love to see not only for sales, but for hits, unique and raw, to see which pages are sending the most traffic. 5. Above all, I dont like waiting 24 hours for a quick support question sometimes I have a question that will take 15 seconds to answer, and it takes days to get a reply. Webmaster support above all is key most of the programs I use the most, if they dont have something in the affiliate area, they will make it for you (Like psd's of paysite logos and such). Of course this isnt always feasible for smaller programs, which is understandable hope this helped @Jim if basic scripts where allowed on free sites it would be possible. years ago i used to submit my free site, to say link-o-rama and i would submit mydomain.com/mysite/index.htm#greenguy and pass on the #greenguy to each page, and when i get a sale i would know what linklist sent it but its probably a good thing scripts arent allowed, more trouble then they are worth, and most webmasters wont know what a safe script versus a dangerous script looks like. It really is one of those things that would take a huge amount of work, and may be possible in a few years with new technologies, that allow websites to share information with eachother. that would be cool

They have the Internet on computers, now?

I think the content is the king in this bussines so:
1) Fresh downloadable content, updated weekly if possible. 2) Content previews, I like to know what I'm downloading. 3) A good content browser. 4) 4 free sites, picture and movie sets that let me chouse the most apropiate content 4 my sites. Im not good playing tetris and thats what I have to do with some picture sets that includes only 20 pics, some at 800x600 pix and some at 600x800 pix. I like sets larger than that in pictures count so I can select the ones that best fit into my site. 5) A hosted galleries tool that let me get the url, description, date and thumb of the galleries that I select in plain text. 6) Good banners, in various sizes and formats to chouse from. |

To be honest, if your sites sell well I don't care about affiliate site features.
I don't have enough time to look at the stats, and I buy my content. What I find useful on affiliate sites are tools for promotion. I like when I can get quality banners of different sizes, and when I can control where I send surfers (warning page, tours, join page). What I don't like are "wizards" where you need to go through 10 step process just to get a banner and link code. Just one page with banner which I can save to my HD is more than enough. That's all what I can think of right now. |
