I had the reverse problem (HD Crashed, iPod was ok) and I used this to get everything back on the computer:
http://www.zeleksoftware.com/liberator.htm I do remember that I had to install iTunes 7, add my un/pw so that it knew it was my account & confirm something as far as the purchased music. I don't have an iPod but I ran into some problems burning CD's from some songs I downloaded from Burnlounge. I had WMV version 8. I found out I needed at least version 10 so I upgraded, but it had problems with all the songs I had previously downloaded, something about the DRM protection or some such crap. I found out I had to download (buy) and play 1 song to set some licensing mumbo-jumbo in WMV to recognize the songs. After I did that it works fine.
