Agreed. You need to make sure you don't get posts from RSS feeds. I would go with more words per post myself, to tell the quality out from the quantity.

Another point - not all blogs run the blogroll through out the site. Some only have it on the main page, but when you have a post per page, the blogroll doesn't show up there as well. From your point of view, I think you should require both a link back from the blogroll + a link from the page of the post. If the blogroll shows up there, then they're covered. If not they need to add a link. Or maybe you could go with an either/or approach? just thinking out loud, the main point being, don't assume that blogrolls always show up on every page of the blog.

I have quite a few blogs with long quality posts. I might have a few submits for you down the road, we'll see.

Ugh. That hadn't occurred to me since I've only ever played with very basic blogs in which the blogroll was on every page. Right now, I'm using a standard reciprocal link check during submission. When the submitter clicks 'submit', the script scans the submitted URL for the correct link back. If it's not there, the submit page will respond with the "Reciprocal link not found" error. So I'll either have to demand that my link is present on the particular URL being submitted or I'll have to add another field on the submit page for the URL where my link is found - and that's not what I want to do. I like short and sweet submission forms with minimal required.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, tigermom. This damn site will never be ready for public submissions.

The primary reason that I was hoping to only request the single link back from bloggers was due to the [SE and traffic] value of that link as compared to a link from a free site or gallery. It's difficult to make too many demands upon submitters when your site is brand new with no real surfer traffic. All I have is a handful of SE bots zipping around trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing. It's still a work in progress, but here's the first public link to it from the board - PerveSpace

In case none of you fellow bloggers have noticed UW's Perve Space is now open for submits. Lets get our blog posts in there. I think it is a very interesting opportunity to get some inbound links to individual posts.
