Thats a new one
Maybe I have been out of the loop, but I saw something quite interesing in google results today. One of the listings where the link to the site should have been it said, "This site may harm your computer". The link went to a google page that explained:
"This warning message appears with search results that we've identified as sites that may install malicious software on your computer. We want our users to feel safer when they search the web, and we're continuously working to identify such dangerous sites and increase protection for our users." It is kinda nice that they are trying to protecting the surfer, and might help get rid of some scum sites. I do have to wonder how they find this, I imagine bots can detect it. So I guess it's a good thing? I do also have to wonder, could it be tripped with legit code? Is this new or am I just late on the news? |

McAfee has what they call a Site Advisory that I seen, I think as a link back or something.
I actually wrote them to tell them I thought that was a good idea, of course I made sure I had the green check mark first. Maybe it is the way of the future and would certainly help more Honest webmasters. Here is there link in case anyone wants to check there site. http://www.siteadvisor.com/ Ben

I saw something similar a while back. I dont know if you even have to host it, as far as being considered to be a risk. I think if you link to sites that are a risk to many times you can be hurt as well. Not sure, but there was something like that i had seen.

From what Ive seen every one of the sites that had that warning - and yes its been around a few months - has actually had a hacked script put on their pages (on the server) by someone else, or is intentionally doing it. In most of the cases it was a hacker that had gained access to a tgps server and installed the trojan script - then allowed it to copy itself to every page it could find.
I also noticed that Google is very quick about removing the notice as soon as its fixed so they must do some kind of re-botting for those sites it lists that way |

"After entering our e-mail address on this site, we received 2.5 e-mails per month." from http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/wegcash.com/summary/ I dunno. Looks a bit false positive to me, but how is that going to impact us? edit: correction, weg has popups that are kicking the big red flag. I think it was silvercash or pimproll that only had responses to emails

Just for pop-ups? Thats kind of going a little too far is'nt it? I can understand for syware/adware, that's a good thing to get rid of.
Seems this might bring "linking to a bad neighborhood" to an all new meaning. So how do we monitor what we link to, to know what is bad or red flagged as others have said? Not only trades, but free sites. geez, a mess. Not like we have a toolbar to tell us. And which sponsors are bad. Would "nofollow" save us, sponsor wise? EDIT: I just checked one of my sites, and sure enough, I am linking to a red flagged sponsor. But that is the Mcafee site. I also found a topsite i use, they flagged as very spammy, 3 e-mails a week! 3 in a week is very spammy? Last edited by ronnie; 2007-01-31 at 04:36 PM.. |

I dont think it was just popups - if you look they tested the site and one of the popups(probably a chain sponsor that wegcash has no control over) tried to install a program on the test computer
I had the same thing happen when I tested another companies( a rather large aff program) popup chain - it was platinum bucks - but as soon as I told them what one of their popup suppliers was doing they took it down |

I still wonder about about the e-mail, spammy stuff. Many surfers sign up and want to get e-mails from sites, dont see how they can just blanket it with how many they recieve from a form and make a decision. |
