You are sooo right, Tommy,

my suggestion is simple yet effective: content providers, let your visitors browse your store and site without registration... browse but not buy if you know what I mean.
I am sure you are missing out on a ton of business because of this.. but the WMs all say: if I buy content, then yeah, I will give you all the info you want, but to just look? I bet a lot of WM turn away at the door because of this.
