What changed in 2006?

What would you say were the big changes in 2006 for online porn? I'd say the word of the year was consolidation, with lots of programs for sale, lots of sites going under, less and less mom and pop sites and more 70+ site affiliate programs with cookie cutter content.

Opinions?

Free porn becoming an issue, soon people will look at skim-free TGP's that list ALL galleries as 'the good old days' when there was no free porn.

Rapidshare, megaupload, and similar places used by (sharing) blogs and -forums became a major headache to which nobody seems to do anything about. p2p and bittorrent is nothing compared to these..

Yes, exactly. P2p is much harder for people than these rapidshare places. I work forums sometimes and I see it. People who get the full movies don't even want the movie clips or galleries. To them they are almost worthless. They expect to get full movies, for free. And it is out there availible to them. Worse yet a lot of these places effectively advertise for places like rapidshare making them BIGGER. They charge $10 a month or so and these forums send them the customers left and right even putting it in their rules that people must post using these sites.

I'm surprised to not see some of the major sponsors going after these guys. If you hit three sites Rapidshare.de, rapidshare.com, and megaupload.com. You could create a major impact. If it isn't stopped, it will just get worse. The first time a surfer gets a full length movie from one of these places and then sees there are thousands more, it is all over. He isn't buying ever again unless you get him on some major rare fetish or such where there is no free full movie content.

The full movie content ( 50 MB - 300 MB) out there could easily mean the end of free sites and tgps....and maybe eventually the paysite. It should not be underestimated.

Blogs really started to take off in 2006..which has led to more people controlling their own traffic. Though, 2007 feels like it is going to be the year that TGP guys get bored with bloogs because they still don't understand that 100 SE hits is better than 1000 garbage hits.

Yeah I just showed Dan from DDF around 50gb of his movies neatly packaged up into 50mb disks (one release had 335 50mb parts) at alt.binaries.erotica last night. The poster even politely included 10 frame captures for convenience.

The scary part is that it's hitting websites. It used to be that piracy was for the chosen few who knew a hell of a lot more than anyone else at the time. Nowadays there's no organization, but with the websites it's available to anyone. Scary shit!

Oh as for programs going under, not so much, I meant more the mom and pop sites. We started ASS in 2002, and roughly 35% of the sites we've reviewed have gone offline. Especially model and couples amateur sites. I think the plethora of porn is making it hard for the little guys last 2 years.

Agreed. Rapidshare is actually being chased by Germany's version of RIAA : http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?s...37230&from=rss (details here: http://www.heise.de/english/newsticker/news/83948 )

Fingers crossed

...look what I got (btw I don't work for natnet):

Hello,

Let me answer your questions one at a time...

> movie even when he is offline (without having to enter a password ever
> again)?

Absolutely. Generally, when a client wants their member to have what we
call a "lifetime license," we will simply issue a license that is good for
100 years. We figure that will be long enough. ;-)

> 2. Can a I set such a DRM rule, so that a member will have access to
> the videos even after his monthly subscription has expired? (So, that
> past members would have access to the videos for life.)
> My goal is simply to protect my video content from Rapidshare,

> members.

Yes. Once we issue a 100 year license, the video will no longer contact our
license server for instructions, so it does not matter if they are still a
member of your site or not.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll be
happy to help in any way that I can.

Thanks,
Andrew

So, obviously there is a way to protect video content from being spread away at places like rapidshare, megaupload and the p2p and torrents. Affiliate programs CAN protect their content. And in the long term I think this will bring more sales for both affiliates and program owners. I think we loose a lot of potential customers because of all this P2p and rapidshare places.

Problem with DRM is it's easily cracked & pisses off paysite members.

Let's assume that all programs had DRM on their content. So, even if a few videos get cracked and shared, the majority (95% +) of the content will be protected from the sharing networks (rapidshare, p2p... etc.).

First a paysite member get pissed off only if he is promted to enter a password each time he wants to play a video. But as you see from the email, it's possible to avoid this. And the second reason for a member to get pissed off is because DRM has such an option, where you can block access to the downloaded videos once the membership has expired. But as you see:

"Once we issue a 100 year license, the video will no longer contact our
license server for instructions, so it does not matter if they are still a
member of your site or not."

...this could be avoided too. The only thing that a member will have to do is to enter his password only once, and that's it, he will be able to play his videos forever.

Personally I would prefer to promote a sponsor that can protect its content than a sponsor that has its videos all over the sharing networks.

i think that in 2006 year we got more access to our programs which we do not pay and more possibility to get more traffic. So i thin new AWMs can begin their business with smaller problems then early.

If he shares this with another computer of his/hers (or reformats), I presume they have to transfer a license file of some sort, right?

Do these protected movies work with say the VLC player or linux/mac players too? Just curious.

If he do so, he would just have to enter his password once again (from the new computer). Then the DRM server will be connected and the thing will store a 100 year license on that new computer. So, again, the only thing you have to do is to enter your password ONCE.

I don't know about VLC player or linux/mac players, you can ask around. I would like to learn about this, too.

Hmmm. I suppose that would work if the DRM server kept the customer in its records even after they cancelled the membership (for when the hard drive crashed or the license file got corrupted). But if not I can see where this is annoying for the customer and where they would prefer non-DRM movies.

If sites would do this and actually retain the necessary information and say promise to do so for X years, this would probably help DRM for porn become easier for surfers to swallow.

Same here. What really upsets me about places like rapidshare more so than the normal p2p is that rapidshare is GROSSLY profiting from all this. I've seen the users in the forums and the pageviews. We're talking thousands of joins a day, mainly for porn.
