i've heard different things from different people and I know its not the same for everybody but is there like a standard "slow" period and a "OMFG IM RICH" period?

Traditionally the winter is a little better than summer as people tend to be indoors more. Around, well, right about now, the college kids leave the nest which helps a bit.

It makes a big difference sometimes if you are pushing a lot of traffic. Less so if you do not have a lot. In that case don't expect too much from it.
