Trouble starting up

Hey everybody, I have what I believe is a great idea that would benefit the adult community, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting webmasters to participate.

People don't want link trades because they don't want to be the first, and they also don't want to submit their blog because they don't want to be the only one sending traffic (I presume this is the reason).

So what I really want to know is where I have to start. I need initial webmasters, and initial link trades.

I am sending traffic from my own blogs, I don't have any other way of increasing traffic unless other webasters either submit their blogs or trade hard links with me.

I've had semi-active and not-so-active threads here, but even with ~100 blogger views/reads I haven't had one person submit a blog.

You can view the threads at:
http://greenguysboard.com/board/showthread.php?t=43303 - Submit blog thread
http://greenguysboard.com/board/showthread.php?t=43324 - Hard link thread

Where do I start? How do I get the initial traffic I need to get it rolling?

It takes time to get known and gain seasoned webmasters trust, it's a very competitive business and most don't stick it out.
How do we know you will stick it out, how do we know you won't try something underhanded.
I looked at your TGP it looks brand new like you just put it up but have no TGP's listed or being submitted that's not a good sign
I looked at your blog directory I didn't like the idea of just the top three blog feeds being shown or advertising for Xblogs (most free things like Xblogs start out good then turn to shit).
I've had a blog aggregator up for around a year and have never asked for a link trade, it just seems to me when starting out that you have to give more than you get.
BTW I live in Cottonwood what part of Arizona do you call home

Thanks for the reply. I don't have much to offer for credibility, I don't know what I can do to change that except giving it time. The TGP script I made was having problems and I've just fixed them.

I don't understand what you mean about the top 3 blog feeds. The reason all of mine are showing is because currently I'm the only person with submitted blogs in it right now. And xBlogs contacted me and asked me for a hard link trade, and I didn't see a problem with it.

I understand that I have to give more than I get, but I'm not exactly sure what I could possibly give at the moment. I'm updating with an option to just use a simple text link recip in exchange. I don't understand how I'm meant to get traffic with no recip or link exchanges. Without traffic it's a waste of time for me and everybody who submits their blog.

I'm in Central Phoenix right now.

I dont have a blog directory, but I would imagine they take a considerable amount of time to get steady traffic, unless you have a good traffic source. you just have to keep at it keep making more blogs and linking to it and people will eventually start submitting.

I'm in Vegas now, but spent much of my life in Arizona. Tucson to be exact. loved it there.

Dude, dont take this as anything more than a little constructive criticism.

I've looked at your site a couple times and it looks like a type of hybrid between a social bookmarking site and something else maybe a directory. Hybrids are ok but it leaves one to wonder where your headed.

But thats not why I decided not to submit anything. Every link on my site is a site I would recommend to a friend. Your site is boring. I don't know if your looking for blogs or feeds but signup with some sponsors that offer hosted whichevers and add some excitement....or at least some content. I work hard to get my surfers I sure the hell ain't going to send them someplace that I'm bored at.

As far as link trades, you want a prime link location on one of my sites you need to earn it. There is no way in hell I'm going to give someone a prime link location on my site when they would be lucky to send me 2 hits back. Especially when one of them just isn't smart enough to click on the little X. My trades sort by who has sent the most in. Want a trade, start at the bottom and show that you deserve a link at the top.

Like I said you look more like a social bookmark site than anything else. Look at them and see what it takes to do trades with them. But be prepared to accept a less than desirable location for your link until your able to send something back.

Why don't you just subscribe to the blog feeds? Am I missing something here? With the blogs, where do you put recips?

Woah, wasn't asking for any top positions. And it's boring because nobody's been posting yet. One of its main features will be a fairly high-paced environment for the surfers, so they can refresh and get a few more posts per minute. It's been 3 days, to ask that much now is insane.

Your link will be displayed on the right-hand side of every page under "Great Links". I'll expect a similar link position, no better no worse.
sounds that way to me.

As far as the boring part, I was trying to point out that you do need content. A couple ways to get that is sponsor hosted stuff or allow submissions without recips.

Right now your caught in a catch 22. No content because of no submissions. No submissions because you have no content.

In addition to what's been said above I think part of your problem may be your insistence on 100% handwritten blogs. That's not a bad thing, on the contrary, but I don't think many stick out that route very long. It seems to be all about loading up with a few feeds and letting the blog run on autopilot these days.

You need to give it time, build up your own reputation and let your site mature.

You've gotten nothing but sound advice in this thread
I started two new directories this month, one is a toplist that I'm already asking for trades and have recieved 3 so far, the other is a feed aggregator (something like what you have built) it has nothing but sponsor feeds in it. I just looked 299 feeds have given me 6,000+ posts.
I've had the domain online for over a year (just a one page bs site) with no links going to it, Unique Visitors last month 60, Number Of Visits 114, so far this month Unique Visitors 386 Number Of Visits 861
Based on my other aggregator it will take about three months for it to get 500+ Uniques a day (from the search engines) with no trades, that's when I plan to start asking for submissions with a link back.
If your looking to make a fast buck I think your best bet is to start making Free Sites.

You now know more about my business than my wife

Problem with feed splogs is there would be batches of new posts with the same exact content added simultaneously every time a certain sponsor feed updated.

You're right, it does sound that way. What I meant to say is that I wanted it in a similar position. On the links page, under an appropriate heading. And I wasn't really expecting any link trades with high traffic sites, I imagined I'd probably mostly be getting trades from newer sites.

If a high traffic site wants to link trades I don't really mind much where my link is as long as it's not the same color as the background.

Could anybody link me to some sponsors with hosted blogs for filler content please?

Kaktus has most of the sponsors with feeds listed if your looking for sponsor hosted blogs I started a thread looking for them in the Blogs section of this board
Have Fun

My bad, sounded like a closing argument to me. Sexoutpost gets about 25-50 uniques per post in my blogs, so if I post 3 posts per blog per day I 'll pull in at least a good 300 uniques a day on my own traffic.

I have done freesites, I don't think they're my strong suit. I saw a lot worse results than others reported, and it's been a few weeks since then and haven't made a cent.

That's not why I stopped making them though. I made some blogs to feed my freesite HUB, and the blogs turned out to bring it more traffic than the freesites. Took a break from both for a while to program sexoutpost.com and here I am.

Thanks, I'll sign up for a few of those sponsors and add them to the database.
