The next thing you will see is a program saying "Get paid nothing for initial signup" and people will still sign up.

Just wait until you start seeing affiliate programs charging a fee to the webmaster for allowing him to sign up.

Someone has to cover the costs of checking out all the fake webmasters with no adult sites, and those who are trying to sign up for multiple accounts, or using fake ID information, and all the other tricks that scammers try to pull. Plus there's the management of all those who signup but never send any traffic. So I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more invitation-only and 'fee-to-join' affiliate programs (unless you're reasonably well-known with a good bit of traffic of course).

Actually, I wouldn't mind paying to join a program if that actually guaranteed some things, like more transparent stats, higher payouts with no processing fees, allowed email campaigns, longer cookies, and more important, potentially a lot less competition promoting the program and its sites.

Not that we're thinking of going that route, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some other programs doing that one day.
