In the new economy, 'free becomes inevitable'
"If 'free' is what you want - and who doesn't? - 'free' is what you're going to get. So says Chris Anderson, editor-in chief of Wired magazine and, according to Time magazine, one of the world's Top 100 influencers."
No, I am not spamming the board! This is the beginning to a really interesting article found here http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...Story/Business . A friend sent me the article which talks about how everything is becoming free on the Internet. Though it doesn't talk about porn I think similar lessons can be drawn about adult. |

I read that article and it all sounds very logical but it feels like it's wrong, somehow.
I think you can only have a free digital economy if everything is free - not just bandwidth, but food, electricity... people need to make money to survive. So there has to be money changing hands somewhere. There's also the idea that your time isn't worth any money. That guy is only counting costs in terms of physical stuff, not labour. But I'm not an economist... what do I know?

He seems to skim over the fact that most web pages are advertising supported in someway or another.
One of my main clients(~$2B) only provides free products to targeted demographics, but they are filled with advertising for 3rd parties. |

Where mainstream can go paid placement and give certain things away for "free" (assuming they can find enough viewers who are willing to be entertained and targeted for advertising at the same time) it's going to be hard to translate that to porn IMO. Unless Coca Cola starts encouraging porn stars to drink cumshots out of Coke Cans at the end of scenes (with the trademark unabashedly facing the camera, of course.)
All of my friends get their porn for free from torrent sites. They don't understand my business, they assume I'm redundant. Some of them believe the business is inherently evil, rife with scammers and spammers (obviously that exists, but its disheartening when your friends lump you in with those shitheads because they've had a bad experience looking for naked pics of Paris Hilton online.) They will never pay for music or porn. I hope the music industry will go the free music approach, because I feel the music cartels are just a bunch of greedy cocksuckers and the artists and consumers will eventually gain more by a free-music model. But porn is different. Until we can fill arenas with people for live Pornstar Fuckfests and sell them t-shirts, there will be a market for porn. People buy adult memberships for convenience. The torrent people will never pay. But they will not have the convenience of a members' area and all that goes with it. That is, until our model is destroyed and replaced with a new one.

Tube sites are trying to make money giving stuff away dishonestly or basically for free. I know they still sell ads but people are way less likely to buy anything when there are so many tube sites showing tons and tons and tons of free porn
