Multiple domains/few pages vs. Single domains/many pages
Trying to better understand the contrast between setting up lots of galleries and free sites on 1-2 domains compared to populating lots of individual domains with minimal page sets. Hoped someone might help me better understand some basic perspectives and offer some newbie guidance.
Assume a theoretical situation: You have a starting point of 10 unused domain names and 30 ready-to-launch new free sites and TGPs, all targeted in a single niche you believe has room. Further assume that about half of the free sites have 100% original content which is unpublished, plus also includes a tidy selection of original movies to match. The other half of the pages were built from purchased content so you do not necessarily -need- sponsor content at all. The long term goal is to create a mini-network of sites which will feed 1-3 pay sites, and to get inertia and funding towards that goal you want to take advantage of any revenue sources you can from the existing content. Add icing to the assumptions and say that hosting resources are a non-issue. Would you put all the free sites on 1-2 domains or spread the sites across many domains? Which might be the best long term answer, and which might be preferred in the short term? If all this was sitting on your hard drive, what would you do? . |

Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

The only thing I can think of is if you use fewer domains then the search engines will see more growth per domain than it would if you used lots of domains, but unless you're targeting some pretty focused micro niches you're probably not going to see much SE traffic anyway.

Thanks Spaceman...
For you is it only a SEO matter? Is that the primary up/down side? Guess I was thinking more of LLs and such, where I was unsure whether links to multiple interior domain pages might get less exposure than individual domains? Quote:

From a LL standpoint, I don't think it really matters. I was just pointing out the only thing I could think of that would influence the decision one way or the other.
If it was me, I'd go with just a few domains. I apply the KISS principle whenever possible. ![]()

Wheither you think you can or you think you can't, Your right.

I agree with spaceman. I see people say you should have tons of domains and tons of pages, hubs, ect. Thing is, it's going to be more difficult to update all that stuff. In my opinion, gone are the days when you can just put up a page or a site, leave it and it will grow SE traffic, they have to be updated or they will die off, and usually pretty quick.
For every niche page you put up, there are likely 1,000's of other similar pages, if not more, on other sites that actually update their pages. There is just too much competition with newer content. It's is also quite evident the LL model does not work a well as it use to. Sure don't know why people keep starting new ones. |
