Knowing that thousands of webmasters worldwide are watching this thread in nervous anticipation, I've decided to give you this update. 8 hours after opening the support ticket, I received this:

Dear Mark,

Your server has been replugged and it is online now, also we have performed basic hardening and also blocked the ip's attacking server. We have also installed and configured firewall on the server, so you should now not face any issues.

In reality, the server still times-out when pinged. Also, that basic hardening and firewall was supposed to have been done before I ever received the server months ago. I can't believe this host has the word 'Managed' in its name.

They apparently left out the "Mis" due to domain name length and marketing reasons.
