XM Radio, anyone have it?

Just curious if anyone has it and your thoughts on it. It definitely seems interesting I hate having to change music stations 4 times when I drive down to the city once a month or so. Just thought it would be nice to grab the xm interface from your home stereo and plug it into your car.

Do you have it? Do you like it? Where did you get the equipment?

I have it - it's wonderful for parties & football games (because it comes with ESPN News - LOL)

My wife bought it for me for our anniversary.....then decided it looked better in her truck

Don't bother getting the Stand Alone unit - I haven't used it once - just hook it up to an existing radio/stereo.

Yeah my thought was to get that little portable thing that you can buy the adapter kits for and move it from home stereo to car stereo etc. They now have one for PC's too that is under $50.

How is the quality? Do the stations fade in and out during storms etc?

MY neighbor has it and says he loves it not that I ever see him listening to it. Then again he owns like thirty cars, ten motorcycles, twenty cell phones, you get the idea.

Personally I prefer to hire the actually musicians but it can be a bit of a pain trying to fit them all in the back of a Vette while driving.

I haven't had any problems with reception in either the truck or during parties. With the home based receiver, you just have to point the antenna south. The one in the truck has a very small unit (1" x 1") mounted to the top of the cab.

I also think that with more & more FCC crap coming down on radio DJ's you'll see more & more "Shock Jocks" going to XM or the other one. I have a feeling Opie & Anthony are going to satalite in 63 days

Anymore I am getting tired of giving these radio stations and tv statiosn my money. Example: Where I live right now we cannot get any local channels, even with an antenna. I have been fighting with DirecTV to get the local channels out of Detroit until the Lansing, MI ones come out, they said no. So I requested getting the nationwide channels, they sent a letter to all the local tv stations and only 1 (ABC) approved it, while the others didn't even though I couldnt get local channels even with an antenna.

It's bullshit, and these stations dont want to see you leave because it takes away a revenue stream, because of this I have been thinking about supporting those things like XM radio that is a pay to listen to service, I would wrather pay for what I WANT vs. what they are giving me.

Thanks for the info GG, I might order one up today, do you suggest any place online? I was just curious about the storms because I know our Sat tv dumps out during heavy rains.

I hate commercials -

So thinking about getting XM to get NPR/or/both MPR -
Of course I'm probably like 1 person in 200 million that covers Northern MN like I do daily.

(and yes, I am, and have been a member for years)

Some XM Stations do have commercials - I'd guess about 1/2 - but if you think of it as "cable for your radio" it's easier to pay the subscription fee
