server hard drive failure, note to LL owners

I have a server with a dead hard drive and no recoverable data on the hosts end, I'll be re-uploading sites as soon as it is repaired, so Link List owners if I have to appeal a blacklisting I will refer to this message.

Hard drive failures on servers suck, they restore the damn domains but without content, so when the spider somes it gets a 404 error instead of a cannot find server error.

Only about 20 domains on this server.

Well, I did get blacklisted for the 404s that came up when my host restored the domains without a backup of the content.

So, I have appealed the blacklisting, and referred to this message, now I'm bumping the message so that it will be obvious to the webmaster or webmasters to whom I have appealed.

Server problems suck. Business as usual...

I'm searching my DB & the blacklist for your domaisn now - give me an hour & I shoul dhave them all removed from the blacklist (and I'll get the links back in there for tomorrow)

would be most helpfull to know the domain in question since I just removed a ton of sites today and added a few to my blacklist and blocked lists.

Hi Emerald, as far as I can tell the only domain that got blacklisted was http://www.sinfulsodomy.com/ (I haven't checked every one of the 29 domains on that server, but most of them had only dmoz sites and search engine pages). I've had every linklist site on that server restored since wednesday of last week, so if this is recent blacklisting you are doing I should be fine.

But I'll be rechecking all the domains on that server at usefulscripts later on this week, so if I missed something I might be sending you an appeal email.

Thanks very much GG, I thought it might be you, you're the only site with that frequent a bot. Here's one of the benefits of participating in this message board, you understand the blacklist process and you get off it quickly when basic business problems like a server failure mess you up. ;-}

Bill I have no idea if I shit canned any of your domains, not that I know of, but if you don't get approval/decline e-mails from me then you have to let me know so that I can remove your domains from my ban list.

Holy (insert long string of obscenities)!

This server is down again, and I have have pages coming up 404 AGAIN!

The host guy is in touch with me apologizing and explaining, you know, the old server compatibility line- "If we didn’t make this move, that server would have been like a time bomb, waiting to explode. The so called stable version of the operating system we had installed is no such thing, and we cant go backwards, so we had to get a new box with an older version installed. Everythings going smooth and the sites will be back online soon."

Oh yeah, everythings going real smooth. |-(

I'm sorry all, I waited a couple days to appeal blacklist because I knew server problems come in clusters, I thought I'd waited long enough.

That at least was short lived. Cannot Find Server for 3 hours, 404 for 10 minutes, now everything looks good again.

Now I'm feeling paranoid, server problems come in clusters, what's going to happen next? ;-}
