And I'd like to add I have insight as a pay site owner. Affiliate traffic (traffic from their free sites, banners on their link lists and tgps, hosted galleries) has dropped HUGE in the past 2 years because they have lost their traffic.

There's no hidden method you're overlooking, times just are as they are. VOD though dying, still generates some income if promoted correctly, but time will tell.

I'm a paysite owner as well, affiliates have lost their traffic for a number of reasons. Firstly tubes sites put a big dent in the aff model itself, then the file sharing networks helped to dim the lights big time. In addition to that programs were dropping off and many aff's were getting screwed. Hardworking long time affiliates now-adays are more reluctant to sign up to new programs and many have shaved their lists down, and rightfully so. Plus the new webmaster is not like the old...

It comes down to appealing ways of promoting and trying to get and maintain targeted traffic, if that's possible.
