Must have been something in the air yesterday. Christy and I ended up pretty upset with each other by the end of the day. I thought that we had agreed that if it was cold and windy last night we would skip kayaking and instead order a pizza and stay home watching TV. SInce there were 20 mph winds and the temps were going down in the forties I skipped eating since she was bringing home a pizza, or at least that was what I thought.

Christy gets home and is hell bent of going kayaking despite the lousy weather. So against my bitching and being really hungry we go kayaking anyway. We get about two miles from the launch site and my foot on my bad leg goes completely numb and I can't move it anymore. I freaked out thinking that I've gotten another clot in my leg so we turn around . Nothing more embarrassing than having to tell the group that I can't make it the rest of the trip and Christy gets pissed off at me convinced that I'm faking it.

We get back to the car, by this time my leg is hurting like hell and my foot will no longer work at all. Sat in the car with the heat blasting and after about 30 minutes my leg started recovering although it is still not completely better.

Did some Googling about cold and blood clots and found this.
Quote:
It has recently become clear that the shutting down of blood flow to the skin, which is the normal first defence against cold, can explain some of the large numbers of deaths that are associated with cold weather. The blood volume has to be reduced to prevent the blood that was displaced from the skin from overloading the circulation; fluid is accordingly lost from the blood to the tissues, which removes the excess volume but leaves the blood more concentrated and therefore more liable to clot.
Seems I need to be really careful about making sure my bad leg stays warm, like not going kayaking in forty degree weather since I don't really own anything warm since it hardly ever gets cold here.

Work, laundry and more work is my plans for today while keeping my leg elevated and warm.
