Question Adding a Sig banner

I made my first flash banner, took me a few hours to figure out to make it and when I finally get something worth using, I can't get it to show up as my sig.

It's a 120 x 60 .swf file would that be the problem?

I went looking for sig rules but I'm not finding anything.....

Talk about a bubble being burst.....

Try this code for your sig.

<a href="http://www.URL.com" target="_blank">
<embed src="http://www.URLTOFLASHFILE.swf" quality="high" width="130" height="80" style="width: 130px; height: 80px; text-align: left; clear: left;">
</a>

Hmmm, it only acts like it is clickable.

Seems to ignore the <a> tag in html.

Do you have it set to be clickable in Flash?

It has been awhile since I've worked in Flash so I may not word this exactly correct…

In Flash you need to assign a go to action to the movie which is Flash's way of making a movie linked to a URL when you click on it.

I HATE FLASH!|raygun|

I used SWISH to make this (even tho I have Flash, no idea how to use it) and I thought I saved the file before closing it but I didn't, so I would have to start all over again... which isnt a biggie, since I see a change or 2.

But I think I will try and edit it in Flash first

First you need to right mouse click on your movie and create a Symbol. It can just be an invisible image on the top layer.

Then you need to add this action to your symbol.
on (release) {
getURL("http://YOURURL.com", "_blank");
}

Kewl, so what did you do to get it working?

You can most likely remove the opening and closing <a> tags from your sig code if you haven't already.

Actually the code is fine, I didn’t mess with that, just uploaded the new image.

I redid the whole thing from start and in SWISH I added a "button" then gave it a "FS Command" for "press" and then "go to" the url.

It's easy now that I know, but a lot of steps to get to it.

In my testing I didn’t have the "on press" and after it ran it took me to the URL automatically, I think had I left it there I might have gotten into trouble lol..... But I sure would have had a lot of traffic!

I've heard good things about SWISH, but have never tried it.

A few years ago I was actually getting pretty good in Flash, but then realized that many places did accept it so I stopped using it and have pretty much forgotten much of what I learned.

I just got SWISH a few days ago, I had FLASH 4 for years and got FLASH MX 2004 a few weeks ago, and after countless hours I still can not do anything in FLASH.

SWISH is much easier.... MUCH MUCH MUCH......

For my I had to do the the tutorials in Flash and then after much beating my head into the wall I started doing some decent stuff.

I really wished more places accepted Flash ads.

I've always been interested in FLASH, since I first saw it. But never put the time into it, and never thought of what I could do with it. I even have the FLASH 4 bible, I'm not sure I ever opened it.

But I’m so cheap I hated the idea of paying for a simple sig banner which is all I wanted. I also noticed in SWISH that I can only save in a .swf file, but in FLASH I can save in .gif and whatever else, I just don’t know if they will look/work the same as it would in .swf

I just wish I had talent for design, I LOVE doing it, I just SUCK, so I'm giving up on it site wise. Gonna pay for someone else, so when I don't like something I can yell at them.... =o)

Yeah you can save as a GIF or movie file, but the file size would be much larger.

Personally I like The visual quickstart guide to Flash. Actually I like all the books from this series. The show an example with screen shots of what it is you need to do and have a good index for looking up things.
