Jesus H Christ:
"Cost: $88 billion - $175 billion"

If my contractor told me that I'd shoot him

I'd also be a tad bit scared to go 4000 MPH underwater in a tube.

Interesting concept. I may investigate it further for investment purposes.

You have $88 billion - $175 billion burning a hole in your wallet too? That's a pretty big range, it can cost $88 billion or double!

4000 mph for an hour straight cannot be healthy!

I own controlling interest in construction contractors that may be able to pick up some of the work.

Even contracting on the test phase would be nice.

4,000 miles per hour? Shit you could leave London and go to New York for the day and come back that night. LOL

"submerged 150 to 300 feet beneath the Atlantic's surface and anchored to the seafloor" 2 words... Fuck That!

Can you imagine being in that when it springs a leak?

I think I'll just wait till they perfect the transporter.

You know what I wonder??? At 4000 MPH, what if it had to stop for some reason. What if it lost power??? Every passenger would either be through the front window or squished against the back of a seat. Not to mention the people using seat belts where arms, heads and legs would just rip off a body.

"But supersonic speeds require another critical step: eliminating the air -- and therefore air friction -- from the train's path. A vacuum would also save the tunnel from the destructive effects of a sonic boom, which, unchecked, could potentially rip the tunnel apart"

I'm glad that's taken care of ... so if there's a crack in the train we'll all get sucked out through a 1 milimeter hole |conehead|

Could the human body even withstand speeds close to that for such a long period of time?

That is a lot of cash. We'd probably have to combine the annual incomes of Tommy, Dr. B and GG to pay for that

From my Very Limited understanding of mag/lev.
If the power goes off, you're basically a roller coaster. Apparently there are wheels and there is a track for this possiblity.

Though I would be placing my money on scram jet tech. Over vs Under, but I'm sure with about the same amount of risk.

Sweeeet.

I'll take two.

I think the time it would take to get through security and accelerate UP to 4,000MPH would take a while.

I have a cheaper solution.

Drug Induced Coma on a normal cruise ship.

It's all about perception, really.
