That surprises me. I always assumed that steak would be cheaper in America than Britain, but if I buy from my local butcher I can get a quarter pound steak for about half what a quarter pound burger costs in McDonald's.

That is cheap steak (aged about sixty seconds) but if I want the good cuts, well hung, I can get a quarter pound for about one and a half times the cost of a McDonald's quarter pounder!

And I even got a neighbour who can get me steak from Prince Charles' estate at about that price too. Steak reared by the next king of England!

(Although I doubt my neighbour gets it legitimately.)

P.S. I'm having steak tonight, but that is part of a pile of steaks and a large joint of roasting beef that my neighbour gave me to pay off part of a debt he owes me. You want real cheap steak you need junky neighbours desperate for the cash for their next fix!
