Big brother AND Greenguy sees you!

This was a hard one, because I really can't remember.
But I *think* this was the first one (after some google'ing)
1984-10-11: Dio on his Last In Line tour. Fun fact, this was the first concert in this venue without chairs!! (So I'm part of local history).

Back in those days big names usually didn't stop in Norway. We're kind of on the outskirt, at least back then with very few venues to choose from.
I *DID* see Eric Clapton in the same venue and there are two dates it can be, but I'm going for EC 1985-03-20.

Nowadays almost everyone makes a stop in Norway and we have some really great venues spread around southern part of Norway.
Back then it was almost only Drammenshallen who did have concerts and that's not even close to close where I lived.

And, if we count out a few small christian bands in our community, DIO is the very very first. Probably.

This made me think of the last concert at Darien Lake* before they installed permanent seating (no, I wasn't there, but it was BIG news)

*Darien Lake is a Six Flags about 1/2 way between Buffalo & Rochester that has a 21,000** seat amphitheater.

**The arena*** in Buffalo holds 19,000 for hockey, but that's gotta be less for concerts.

***The stadium holds 71,000**** for football but Wiki shows the attendance of The Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984 was 94,000. Point is, no one even comes close to filling it anymore (The Rolling Stones had 50,000 in 2015, Guns N Roses had 35 when I saw them there in 2017)

****The stadium used to hold 80,290 for football & there was a time in the 90's that we were the biggest NFL stadium after Cleveland did some renovations & dropped from 83,000 to 78,000 in 1992. We're currently 10th.

PS - One fact I never knew about the stadium I grew up 3 miles from:
Quote:
There were notable large concerts that were scheduled to take place at the stadium but were later canceled. Led Zeppelin was set to perform at the stadium on their 1977 North American Tour. The concert was one of the seven remaining concerts on the tour that were canceled due to the death of lead singer Robert Plant's son.
Thank I was only 6 or I'd have been PISSED!!

DID EVERYONE GET ALL THAT?!

Why do you imagine that is? Is it that modern bands don't have the same pull or are people just not as interested in concerts?

I have only ever been to just two concerts, but that's largely due to the fact that social anxiety made them basically unattractive to me. (Remember the good old days before social anxiety came along and you could simply say that you didn't like people?) Plus, and you will find this very difficult to believe (Ha!), I never had that tight group of friends other people seemed to have had, and therefore went to shows with. Either way, I'm not sure I ever liked any band enough to want to see them live.

You have to remember a couple of things:
- Buffalo isn't exactly the most populous place on the planet, even with Canadia just north of our unwalled border. Other than The Jacksons, the only concert that shows selling out was The Who in 82. (but there are a lot of concerts with no data - and they only show 60k for Guns N' Roses/Metallica in 92 & that place was packed)
- 70-80k is a lot of fucking people. Most arenas (hockey/basketball) hold 15-20k. Baseball stadiums are 40-50k. If a band sells out our arena, that's a big deal. Move those 20k people to the stadium & you'd wonder why they bothered to put on a show.
