Newbie ... saying hi and looking for some advices!

Hi!

First of all I would like to introduce myself and let you know my name.
I'm alessandro and I live in Europe. I'm a little fascinated when it comes about Internet and what you can do on Internet. That's why I decided to start reading about the adult biz some months ago. It comes like a challenge but I must be honest and say that I would also enjoy the money that I could make as a potential adult webmaster.

Well ... as I'm almost ready to start I still need to know a few things before doing any important step.

1. I decided to spend a few bucks and get my own domain name and paid hosting. I don't have much money to spend at the moment but I want something resonable for the money I can afford spending.
I visited www.godaddy.com and they seemed to be reliable but I have a few concerns about them because recently I read a thread on this forum and someone's domain was stolen and Godaddy did nothing to help the real owner, so he lost his hard work ( sorry for the guy and I really hope he will get his domain back )
I've been reading the informations they provide about Domain Locking, Status Alerts and let's say I figured out what does this means.
Also, I saw they offer some sort of "Private Registration" ... which is done through domainsbyproxy.com ... do you think this is a good or bad thing to opt for when I register a domain name ?

If anyone has any pro or versus arguments for using/not using Godaddy to register domain names please post here and help me.

2. Hosting.
I have had found a nice hosting company but after a few days just happened to come over a board where some people where discoussing about the new proposed USC 2257 regulations. I was afraid to sign up since the company was US based and I decided to wait a little more and see what really is going to happen.
I have more questions about how to comply with the USC 2257 and mostly what it really implies.
If you can ... please recommend me some reliable hosting companies. If you're not allowed to post URLs here ( to avoid spam ) please PM me.

3. Content

I was planning to use some sponsor content but I don't like the idea of putting up my name and address on my site so I'm going for text links only.
If anyone can state that text links only does not fall under the USC 2257 please post here or at least give me more details.

Well ... I was thinking to start with some sort of free sites and submit them to LLs to gain and traffic and maybe some money and reinvest them in more domains and hosting. But since I don't want to become a "second producer" and list all my details on my domain I was thinking to use cartoon porn content.

Does anyone has any answer for me if suck type of content would fall under the USC 2257 regulations ?

For the moment this is all ... probably I still have some more things but ask but I just can't remember them now. I'll be back asking if I need more help. Now I'm waiting for your feedback.

Hi there, welcome to the board.

I would stay away from GoDaddy. Personally I use DirectNic for domains names.

The host that I use for all my domains is in the drop down menu in my sig.

2257 is a real mess, I'll let someone else offer advice on that one.

Your English is better than some. As to your questions...if I were you I would spend some more time reading the existing threads on the topics you are interested in. You can use the board "search" function. Then post to see if you have the info straight.

Thank you all for the time spend to reply to my thread.
I did a lot of researches regarding the USC 2257, I've also read the full law a few times but I must say it brings me hard head aches.
I read lots of threads on various forums and many US guys could not understand what exactly all those regulations mean so I understand even less

I can't afford a pro lawyer so seems that I'll have to wait again ... waiting drives me crazy |pissed|

Anyway ... thanks a lot for your opinions ... I'm here to learn so every advice have a great value for my knowledge base.

Yes I believe it would.. and thought it may not fit the exact definition, it is better to be safe.

If you use "sponsor content" you should be able to link to their 2257 information.

If you plan on doing free sites, you are going to have to have thumbs although I have been hearing talk of an alternate route to this.
The private registration thing, lots of registrars will allow you to do that(for an extra fee of course

I use godaddy for a couple of domains but probably won't use them anymore(atleast until the whole name stealing thing gets resolved). DirectNic comes highly recommended(I think Cleo recommended them also)
I use midphase.com for my hosting right now. I haven't ever had any problems with them and they answer my questions quickly and accurately. Be sure to specify with them that you have adult content though.
I have also heard very good things about cyberwurx.com and webgemshosting.com.
The only thing that sucks about sponsor content, well, two things:1. a lot of it is overused 2. some ll's won't list it at all(i.e. cleos and linkfabulous).
You can get lots of content for cheap at pix-mart.com (pixmart.com maybe?) or bargainbasementcontent.com. I know for a fact that pix-mart's content is totally up to date with 2257.

Howdy Alessandro. I use Go Daddy for my domains. I haven't had the same problems as the poor poster that did. However, to add to the mix, I must say that their customer support is really poor. I have 1 or 2 domains at Direct Nic also, and though they are slightly more expensive than Godaddy, their support is good, at least in my limited experience. Sometimes it's better to pay a fraction more to get something that in the long run will service you better. I use XXX Adult Hosting for my server needs and I am really pleased with them. I have had the opportunity to speak with the managment staff there and they are professionals. Not to mention they are not far from where I live which is nice, since I plan on letting them take me out for lunch someday soon

I think you might want to re-think the private registration of your domain name, depending on what you are planning to do.

I am just getting started in the freesite realm, but I do know that in TGP, the Hun is one that will not list you if you are privately registered. There may be more sites than his, but that is the one I had used as an example to me.

For what it is worth, I have about 10 locked domains at godaddy, and I have had no problems with them. But I am new and very small, so no one is likely to steal my stuff either.
