Why would someone do this ?

Their is a guy on GFY called 'Taboo' who has posted a lot of very very useful info on how to get into the domain biz.

What Im trying to work out is what agenda does he have ? You would have to be a fool to create such a large amount of extra competition by posting such useful info on the biggest adult messageboard online.

Can anyone think of the reasons as to why someone would want more competition in a certain market ? I came to the conclusion that perhaps the reason he is doing this is because he already has an impressive porfolio so by just introducing a new wave of people to the domain biz it could raise the value of his portolio over time ?

What other reasons could he have ? I very much doubt hes doing it out of the kindness of his heart

I can only guess, like yourself, but I would hedge two reasons : sales and networking.

And he might be looking for various kinds of business advantages.

This isn't the first time that domain speculation has attracted a lot of attention.

coatsy - believe it or not - this board if full of people that post things that can improve your bottom line - and do it for no profit whatsoever - and yes - some people do things for good reasons - I help people whenever I can if I know something about the question - as do a lot of people.
Sure - you can read all kinds of things into why someone would be helpful - but I think this board is proof that not only do people do things without a money motive, but some of them do do it just out of kindness ( I think about 5 years ago someoe did something for me out of kindness in the biz and I decided at that moment that anytime I could help I would - because I know the effect it had on me)

Linkster - I wouldn't disagree that *this* board is full of helpful people, but the board he mentioned hardly has a reputation of being helpful to say the least!

although I find that almost very board out there has a small group of people that do try their best to help out others - As long as you wade through the other stuff - there's nuggets everywhere - but I do agree that this board has the highest percentage of helpful posts and people.

Completely agree with what you have just said but this individual has created a massive amount of competition in his market, no one would be stupid enought to do that unless they had something to gain, I just asked the question because Im interested in where he is benifiting from this is all

Proof was a bad word to use, Kristian confirmed he has made a lot of money from the info and i know many others who have too. If you give me your email address I'll email you the threads in question and you can decide for yourself if the info is useful or not

Well said Linkster! Almost everyone here is helpful, even if some dont like posting "too" much info, I haven't run into many that didn't treat me like a peer, rather than a competitor.

Dont know this guy, but chances are he just likes telling people how he is smart... and isnt driven by money.

Would piss me off to some extent too if I was in the market, but if I didnt know any other stuff myself, I could hardly complain.. obviously this guy works it out for himself, as no one will be telling him shit with a mouth like that!

Taboo has been in that game for ages and knows his stuff. I dont think its going to have any adverse effect on his business model if others get involved, in fact it would probably have a benefit as he can network more or build new contacts.

Then again some people do genuinely like to share info that can help others, especially if they have done well themselves.

Whether the negative people on this board like to think it is true or not... There are some really nice people in this world who just like to share... Linkster and Opti would be a good example.

I dont know this person who is sharing info on GFY... but if others are benefiting from it... then its a good thing.

well... as I recall when I read the thread - Taboo mentioned something about getting out of the business of domains etc. and didn't consider it competition or anything. Whether this is true or not.... hmm... still - he seems to be like a small number of other guys who've been in the industry for a while have done once they're "comfortable" with their income - ie help others.

I've taken his advice and I'm researching more into it to check out more about this side of the industry
