My year started brilliantly but has gone into the shitter in recent weeks: sales way down. loads of life expenses, grim weather, summer too far away etc etc.

But to paraphrase Eminem: "Success is my only mutherfuckin' option, failure's not!"

Onwards, people. Chin up!

Yes & no

Part of the problem is that the percent of people that are getting online for the 1st time is not increasing as much as it did 5 or 6 years ago but the percent of people that think they can make a few bucks by becoming a "webmaster" is steady (and no, I have no figures to back my statement - LOL)

It seems that the membership churn, which was at one time about 3 months has decreased to just over 1 month on average. And since many of your affiliate programs offer to pay out from 50-150% of the monthly membership fee, do you find it difficult to glean a profit from the revenues? Or do you just feel you are constantly passing the same "buck" around the circle?

That same question was raised a few years ago when TGP2 was discussed and first introduced... And look at where it's at now (sadly).

Personally, the influx of new webmasters joining because of the mindset of the "quick porn buck" has led me to pursue new marketing tactics and openings.

In other words, in order to succeed in an ever-increasing and saturated market, you have to graze in a new field, not where the herd has taken you time and time again.

this year started even better than 2004 and that was not bad at all. I more or less make enough to support my lifestyle with my main site. The premium rate business was extremely good to me in '97 till 2001, dialer wise that is. Now the voice minutes (call-to-enter) are picking back up. Expect to provide a lot of big players with our services through fairtale in the next couple of months.
Since I moved from Holland to Canada 3 years ago, i've been living a much richer life anyways.

I agree with Greenguy. The number of Internet users has started to stabilize, especially in North America and Western Europe. But, the number of people looking to get into our business has not slackened.

Combine that with a *much* smarter consumer, and you have more people chasing a stagnant (and perhaps declining) pool of money.

However, all that being said, even if as an individual if I increase my market share by even a tiny bit, it translates into large gains to the bottom line.

To compare to everyone esle, our best year was 2003 (steadily increasing income since '96). Our current revenue is about half of what it was 2 years ago. But, this year, and especially February, is looking very good.

I read all your stories in this thread and now I doubt if I will start be an adult webmaster myself...

Is this what you say about less surfers & more webmasters also true for niche sites, like bondage?

Of all things, I'd think that even tight niches (like bondage) is increasingly getting harder for newer webmasters to be involved in.

Many people, including myself, have made the move from "standard" porn niches to otherwise "lesser-in-demand" porn.
