Apple - Adult content removed from App Store

We don't have an iphone, and as such know very little about them. Don't or didn't they have an age restriction on these (adult) apps, so anyone could download them?

==
Apple has begun removing risque iPhone and iPod Touch applications from its online App Store, including some which had previously been approved for sale, according to reports.

The new policy towards adult themed content had resulted, for example, in the deletion of applications featuring bikini models.

Apple had begun notifying application developers earlier this week that apps with "overtly sexual content" were being removed.

I don't see what the big deal is about getting adult content in the iTunes store is.

The iPhone has a web browser so just build adult web pages for it.

Would have to agree Cleo.

The store pops up a message that you have to affirm that you are over 18 but it does not require any kind of proof and if you have a gift card or a paypal accept there is no credit card involved.

Here is my iPhone/smartphone porn page.
As you can see it's just a webpage that is the correct size for an iPhone with the movies being in mp4 format which is the correct format for an iPhone.

Using html5 you can build simple games and stuff that can be viewed on the iPhone's web browser. Google went this route when Apple rejected their app so it isn't like someone can't do anything they want. You could build a web app using html5 where Steve Jobs get fucked by a herd of kangaroos while giving head to the pope if you wanted, no iTunes store needed.

Thanks for your reply. Being Apple one could have thought they would put a little more effort into age restriction of the said adult apps.

Thanks for sharing the link. In the meta tags of your page from the link above, could i ask why you have 2 <meta name="verify-v1" tags, one empty and the other below the </style> with your g code? Are there 2 types of that tag?

Because I'm lazy and haven't even really looked at that page's code. Lol

That page was original made by a sponsor and since has been moved to my server with a couple of links added by me. I haven't exactly seen a huge amount of mobile sales so it's pretty low on my list of things to redo.

I know there are people that would disagree with me but it is my feeling that having mobile content on a paysite is a value added feature that may help with sales and retention but not so great for trying to sell as a stand alone product.

The problem with censorship is who decides what is considered obscene. Swimwear seller hit by Apple's removal of 'sexual' apps.

Apple creates 'explicit' category for App Store software

Quote:
Though it is not yet in use, Apple has added a category for developers to label their applications as "explicit" software in the App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch.

A developer revealed to Cult of Mac that the new category is available for selection on the iTunesConnect Web site. However, applications with the "explicit" distinction have not yet appeared in the App Store.

The change could signal that Apple is preparing to launch an adults-only section of the App Store that would segregate potentially offensive content from the remainder of applications.

The move follows Apple's removal of more than 5,000 applications the company said were "overtly sexual." The change in policy came after the company received numerous complaints from users who were concerned children would be able to access inappropriate content from the App Store on their iPhone or iPod touch. Whether those applications removed in the last week would be allowed in to the App Store under the new "explicit" category is unknown.

Apple is also preparing to launch its iPad device, a new form factor the company will pitch as a multimedia accessory that can serve as an e-reader of novels and textbooks. The new hardware will also have access to the App Store and its library of more than 140,000 applications. Its potential adoption in the education market could have played a part in Apple's decision to remove sexual content.

Though Apple purged a number of applications (including some mistakenly), other adult oriented content remained on the App Store, including applications from Playboy and . Phil Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing for Apple, told The New York Times that his company had decided that well-known, established brands would be allowed to remain on the App Store.

It is good if Apple has adult content removed from app store. Cleo you had given a very nice information about apple. Yes, it is some thing that apple always used to launch new and unique models. I think it is not good to have that type of content for the teenagers and even I don't feel any need of that type of content.

Yeah, because as everyone knows, teenagers use Iphones, but teenagers never surf the Internet.
