Targeted Keywords Blocked

I have been doing some research on keywords lately and found that there are a few good ones out there, but there are some of them that don't have any adult sites on them yet they are adult keywords. They have sites like blogs and articles on them etc... How do you know if targeting for that keyword will be accepted?

An example of what I am saying is the keyword "Sex". There are no adult sites in the Serps for that keyword yet I know that there are alot of big lls who have that trageted text for it.

Are some keywords filtered from adult sites even tho they have adult related names?

Yes, in google particularly, porn sites have been blocked from the top of the serp for "sex" for something like almost a year now.

Except in the international google serps, where porn sites still appear in the top positions for that word.

Thanks bill for the info. I found some other adult words that also have no adult links in them. Does that mean that they are also blocked as well or just untargeted keywords?

Im trying to find out how you can tell the difference or if there is a list of these words somewhere.

Yes there are some other words especially if the term may have two meanings
And no Google will not release a list of which terms they are - I do a lot of advertising with them (and I mean lots) and they wont give me the list But at least I do get a nice Xmas present from them every year

Thanks Linkster I didn't think of it that way. Some people might search for sex and not want porn just info on it and the same goes for some of the other ones I found.

By advertising you mean AdWords or AdSense?

Do those things really work and do you have to have a large amount of start up money to start off with them? Do you know any good links that explains it and gives some tips on how to do well with them?

Thanks alot guys for your help.

actually you can target any keyword unless it has something illegal or "unethical" with it.

the other question if you will get good in serps for those targeted keywords, mostly those keywords are highly promoted and competition is very high.

What we were referring to is that there are some keywords that no matter what you do, you can not get in the top 20 for those words in the English language Google results because Google does filter them. If you need proof - sex is a really good example. You will find that doing a search for sex in the English language will all be PG rated results - if you change the language in the url of the results to something like hl-es (spanish) you will see the real results.
For AdWords they have a different set of rules where certain words (cum, cock etc.) cannot be used as words in the advertisement without special prior approval and its very difficult to get. There are others in the non-adult world like anything to do with smoking cigarettes that Google will not accept AdWords for

Add group to the list. That was quite a while ago. I don't know if they've changed it since. Sometimes I really wonder about google.
