Bush Nominates Conservative Federal Appeals Court Judge John G. Roberts Jr. to Suprem
"President Bush named federal appeals court judge John G. Roberts Jr. for a seat on the Supreme Court Tuesday, delighting Republicans while unsettling some Democrats with the selection of a young jurist with impeccable conservative credentials. "
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Supre...tory?id=954691 I'm scared, this guy has no paper trail to see who he really is and he's real young so this could be VERY bad, but of course, only time will tell. |

The fact that nobody knows who he is is probably good. If he was some sort of nutnick it would have been known.
It's hardly a surprise that GB nominated a conservative (just as Clinton nominated liberals). It's just the way the system works and we'll have to live with it. It was funny though, at the end of the nominee's speech how he thanked his parents, his wife and his kids before he's even appointed. It was like being at the Oscar. I was waiting for him to thank Jesus. ![]()

DO a little research - the guy is perfect - good middle of the road - and you might check his record when he represented Playboy on first amendment issues

I've seen the contrary to middle of the road honestly. Im not going to post up my flaming liberal links until a more mainstream, objective and believable source is found.
I reserve judgement for now, however anyone who assisted Ken Starr in delving into Whitewater and coming up with a presidential knobshine instead, is not going to be on my short list of someone who should be making life effecting decisions for me. |

He's not a bad choice so I hope the dems allow him to pass without too much fuss. From what I understand the next appointee (probably this year) will be serious trouble so they need to save ammo for that one.

AHA! The Wiki write up in regards to limiting a private citizens right to sue the federal government (even for just plain environmental stuff) could be seen as a toe hold to completely getting rid of the judiciary process. If you have no grounds to sue, you have no way to change this country. Which means the people have no voice.
And arguing FOR Mining companies in order to get their workers off strike? Come now. This guy has his lips firmly on the rump of everything that is going to take America from working stiffs like us and continue to give it to those who desire nothing but money and power. I wont even get into how incredibly wrong it is for anyone who owns penis to have any kind of say in whether Roe v. Wade stays legal or not. This is not someone who should be deciding what the constitution means and applying it to today, absolutely not. However the weak ass Democrats will roll over and let it happen. *sigh* Why the fuck won't europe bomb us to force regime change? |

UW - read all the way through - he's anti whatever he needs to be when he's playing lawyer (thats what lawyers do representing their clients) - when sitting as a judge(which no one has mentioned cause he didnt do it long) he is real fair and definitely a much better choice than Gonzales
Mister13 - all of those things are when he was acting as a lawyer - dont read anything into that - go find some references to when he was acting as a judge and you will find a completely different story |

I completely understand Linkster where youre going with this.
I actually dropped out of law school because I found that the law and justice had absolutely nothing to do with one another. I also know another attorney who tried to work for the DA's office and could not handle the fact that somethings were ignored simply to get the conviction. I'm not saying his time on the bench was not fair at times, I am just saying as an attorney you have many choices, and one of those is which clients you will take and which clients you will not. Even if it was for the money and just the money, I am not comfortable with someone who see's money as their God. Could I be 100% wrong and he would be a stellar swing vote like Sandy is/was? yup! But for now, his record, his paper thin record as a judge where he was bound to the law and supposed to dole out justice as it should have been, sure seems to not outweigh his choices as an attorney. |

Many on Dubya's short list have stated clearly and publicly that they wish to write thier owns laws based on thier own personal beliefs, which seems to make them unfit to perform the role of judge or justice in our system of government but some how they're able to continue.
Dubya had to appoint a conservative. He had no choice on that issue but at least this guy hasn't proven that he wants the position to rewrite laws. At least he wasn't appointed because of this religeous beliefs. Besides, which justices ruled that local governments can take anything that you own and give it to private businesses? I don't really want conservatives as justices but this guy is about as moderate as Dubya could have possibly appointed. |

This is all I'm saying, the fact that they continue to blame liberals and democrats for societies ills when democrats dont even hold that many offices creates a false sense of urgency to put more conservatives in. Which is why I am a bit distrustful of just about anyone who is put into power who has a relatively close tie to any big business that potentially has environmental rape on their resume or little to no concerns for their employees. I'm just kind of tired of people quoting traditions and values linking it with conservatism in this country when we forget that tradition and values here means, rape and use what we can for our own gain. We are after all a country that have a tradition of Mom and Pop shops, yet we applaud when Wal Mart comes in and drives them out of business. |
