Movies vs Pics

Hey everyone,

Ok, this might have been asked many times before so I'm sorry if I'm repeating something.... but I really couldn't find a straight answer in my searches.

So, here it is:
Comparing marketing with movies or pictures, what is REALLY better?

I understand that most people want to see movies. But most movies out there are really crappy (the free ones) and a lot of pictures are pretty good resolution.. (more than the 600px required by most link lists).

I personally enjoy looking at a beautiful girl in a quality pic more than a crummy 30-sec clip of something' doing some kind vague and blurry humping..

Also, using movies must be requiring a WHOLE lot more of bandwidth... and even if bandwidth is fairly inexpensive, is it worth it in comparison?

In short, is the use of short movie clips really an advantage as opposed to good quality pictures in selling memberships to a sponsor's site?

It all really depends on what kind of site you're marketing - one would think that it'd be stupid to advertise a video only site using pictures

yeah, I guess that with some type of sites there isn't much of a choice.
But what about "regular" sites... the non movie specific kind?

I would assume that all sites have both picture and movie content in their members area..

Maybe it's hard to compare... and I guess I should try both first in any case

A very good portion do. Use the pics and upsell them on seeing that model in the videos. This does seem to work.

But I've nothing to compare it with, cuz I'm too afraid to burn that much bandwidth just yet.

When using pics to promote a site, I upsell the videos.

When using videos to promote a site, I say "click here to see more videos" or whatev...

I believe that the people spending money online are the ones with high-speed connections. So far, my technique is working

I think it's always a good idea to upsell the video content, whether you're starting with crummy video clips or with pictures. People join for movies, not for pictures, IMO.

I have tried both movie FS and pictures ones and frankly I don't see a huge different in conversions. I don't care about the bandwidth, as I'm on a dedicated and still have tons of bw to spare, so I'll keep on doing both. Hey, at least it give me some variety

It makes total sense to me to use pictures to promote sites that's got great movies, as an up-sell.
You show 'em some hot pics and if they want the hotter motion action, they've gotta pay.
But there are MANY free sites and galleries out there with movies as promotion material so I'm just wondering if that is actually a big advantage to use movies instead of pics from the start... even if they're crummy.
As Greenie said, if the sponsor site is a movie site, then movies really is the only sensible option
But for other, non movie specific sites, if there isn't a big difference in conversions between using pics or movies, as you say tigermom, then it's gotta be way more profitable to only use pics... as the bandwidth usage must be far lower.
