Mobile porn - any experiences?

Hello everyone,

as this is my first post on GG&Jim's, I'd like to introduce myself before I get to the actual point of this post.

My name is Alex, I'm 26 and I come from Bremen in northern Germany. I'm an experienced software developer and have worked close to the industry (technical solution provider for all things mobile) for over two years now, which has recently got me a paid trip to the Venus trade show in Berlin (boy is it great to have an exhibitor name tag there), so I have some previous knowledge about both the technical side of things such as PHP, HTML and whatnot and also the industry.

I have recently (as in 3 weeks ago) signed up for a mobile affiliate program named "Sex Goes Mobile" (they have some really neat stuff, like a live cam application which is great for long-term customer binding), bought a domain and set up a couple of pages, which I entered on free link lists, topsites and the like - this seems to be the preferred way of getting visitors on your site in the mobile world. I'm very happy with the traffic and revenue I've gotten so far and I thought about buying some quality traffic to get even more out of this. So here are my actual questions:

1.) Does anyone have experience with mobile adult traffic (i.e. only cell phones, or anything that has a SIM card in it)? Where did you buy it, how did it work out for you?

2.) Can anyone recommend traffic engines other than the big ones (i.e. mRadar.com, mobilust.net, 2wap.net) already out there?

3.) Which mobile affiliate program did you sign up with and what were your experiences? What kind of marketing tools did they give you?

Mobile is going to be a great way to go so I think your right in gettin in on it now before it explodes.

I am due to start a new job in mobile content delivery and mobile websites ( not specifically hardcore porn, mainly softcore stuff ) but I hope to be able to foray into the hardcore porn side on my own with knowledge gained from this ( obviously I couldnt tell them in the interview why I was so keen on the job!!! )

If I were you I would see which mobile/web standards are required for listing in google mobile( which is currently in beta ) and begin to optimize and/or build your sites along these lines, there is some info on their site. Start now ahead of the pack!!

Afraid I cant offer much more help than that at the mo, as I am on the start of the curve also.

Thanks, I think the Google Mobile advice is really good, I'll definitely do that.

And you're right about mobile being the way to go - it is going to really explode over the next couple of years, and I think getting in now is the way to go - that's the reason why I chose to go in this direction.

Sounds like your off to a good start.. Definately do your best to get listed in google and other wap specific search engines.

Also, check out a company called Admob (admob.com). PPC mobile advertising, similar to adbrite. I think adbrite may have mobile ads too, but I'm not sure.

Traffic is hard to purchase in the WAP space. We have done some banner trades and link trades thus far. Seems like the old days of the internet. We do have an affiliate program for both web and wap and both traffic providers and content providers, which has helped. There are some programs from which you can purchase pay per click traffic, both google and yahoo have one. However the prices are driven up by the Europeans that have made money in the space and are not really profitable for affiliates. I don't think they are really profitable for program owners either, merely a branding tool at this point.

We pretty much have focused on our own program to date, and our experiences have been generally positive, althought the building of traffic has been slow. I do like Xobile.com though, good people over there.

I ain't sure about the hole mobile porn thingo.
Won't be as big as expected.

1) Why watch on a small screen when you can hook up a Laptop ?
2) Lots and lots of minors with cell phones. Gov will think about a shitty way to spoil the party
3) All the hot domains are gone hehehehehehehehe

I don't see cell phone porn taking off. They already have devices like the arcos that can play quailty portable video you download on your compy, and I think thats going to be alot more likely, and that won't require us to do anything differently.

On one hand people are so exited that they can do so many thing with their mobiles, but on the other hand most of the mobiles have html browsers on them so there is no need to open wap pages!

I've been bouncing a thought across a couple of these threads. Basically my single thought about mobile porn is that it really isn't that hard to make a site accessible to most modern portable devices. Pretty much all you need to do is make sure you're conforming to the XHTML doctype and you're golden. WAP compliance, while nice for some older devices, isn't 100% necessary these days since the devices (even the low end ones) are getting beefier. My thought on the subject is aim for XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliance and you'll be set for the bulk of modern mobile devices plus you'll probably show up higher in the search engines since the spiders have less problems digesting pages that conform to their purported doctype (at least that has been my experience). Best advice: run your site through the validator at w3. Example: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.adultpicweb.com
