Join price in link texts?
Hey everyone!
Just got a plain and simple question this time. Is it allowed to mention the join price of a site I link to on my freesites, for example if they have a cheap trial something like "Get instant access to all of her pics for only $3.95"? Or would this be a reason for a decline at LL's? PS: And do you think it's worth trying anywayz? |

As long as it isn't a blind link I don't see a reason for a decline.
Many webmasters include the price in their text links

No reason to decline here. I've tried with and w/o including trial price with no discernible difference in clicks.

On a side note, make sure the link isn't blind (I would consider the example you provided blind) and you'll be fine. |

Hmmm... I always thought this would give you less but more productive clicks. I guess that's why testing was invented

Nothing to do with getting listed but you also have to make sure that the program you are using has no problem with mentioning the price in a link. Not sure if they still do but Flashcash used to have a rule against it. Only because they changed the price from time to time.

I sometimes mention a trial price, but I haven't noticed any real difference in conversions.
I have had to go back once or twice to change a few freesites due to price changes or special offers running out, so be careful. I'm starting to think that the only thing that really makes a noticable difference in income when bulding freesites is: Quote:

Wheither you think you can or you think you can't, Your right.

Ya, putting in prices could make for lots of work in the future. I remember back some time when so many programs switchd from free to trial, SO many pages to change..

How is that blind?
The surfer is told they will have to pay $3.95 to access all the pics. That's pretty straight up to me. |confused| Last edited by Licker4U; 2007-01-25 at 07:20 PM.. |

The link tells the surfer what he gets, but NOT where he's going, thus it can be considered blind. |

That's not telling the surfer where he's going? A site where he will have to pay to see her pics? |

Not really, at least not in the eyes of a crazy-freesite-hardened reviewer.
It tells him he's going to A site but not the name of the site. Some reviewers may let it slide but others want to see the name there every time, hence dareutwo's at, AT, @ comment. |

I guess it's semantics. Why does the name of the site matter? A site where you pay is a site where you pay to get what you want. Remember, he's already said "to get all of HER pics" so the surfer knows he's going to get her pics and not going to a site for Viagara, discount air fares, etc.

Thanks for all your replies so far ppl! Very helpful. I guess I'll leave out the price because of a lot of future work and your experiences that it didn't make much difference. Plus the certain sponsor I wanted to promote with such a freesite has geo-targeted billing, so people with an IP from within the EU will be billed in EUR, so the link would be really kind of misleading.
But about the "blind link" discussion... I don't see why that could be considered as blind aswell, and I actually find it really stupid to repeat the name of the promoted site over and over again - especially when the surfer probably doesn't even bother. But anwayz, you really made me think about that. Could someone please have a look at this freesite I want to submit today? I made a banner on my own for the first time (see thread about banners on the warning page) and I used the text "Wanna see all of her uncensored pictures right now?" together with "GET INSTANT ACCESS HERE" in the banner. Is that OK on the index page or would you already consider this blind/misleading? If you think it is a blind link, what kind of text referring to the girl's picture would you use? I don't want to just type some of the site features all the time, because this probably won't attract anyone to signup instantly, but that's what a entry page banner should do. I wouldn't have a problem with that banner because the text directly under it has the paysite name. I guess though that I'm one of those "crazy-freesite-hardened reviewers" that KG Gary mentioned because I seem to be a bit of a blind link nazi.

I agree with Licker4You on this one. A statement that something costs money, that you'll have to whip out the CC to get access to the goodies, pretty much "un-blinds" any link to me even if the site name isn't specifically mentioned. "Get access to all her pics for only $3.95" works just fine.
Conversely it's possible to technically work in the name of a paysite in a link and it remains blind. "Click Here To Watch Bushy Beavers" (where bushybeavers.com is a paysite) just sounds like an invitation to look at some hairy pussy pics. I see a lot of this lately, and to me it's just sneaky.

Even though the price is mentioned in the link (which clearly tells the surfer they'll have to pay if they click), where's that text link go?? Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me and I'll be proved wrong and make adjustments on what sites I decline for blind links. |

Honestly, some you ask too much from text links. I would almost expect to see a list of 2 or 3 acceptable text links, which your submitters must use, displayed on your submit page. I blame MadMax for most of this blind link insanity. Where is he, damn it?

Personally I'm fine if I think any reasonable surfer should understand that the link takes them to a place where they're expected to pay to see more. Of course that's a subjective judement, and on my LLs I'm the one who makes it, so submitters shouldn't push their luck. My "nazi-ness" when it comes to blind links goes in waves. While I used to be a stickler for technicalities I'm much more concerned with sneakyness these days. If I feel the link is intentionally deceptive the site is out, regardless of whether it technically adheres to the rules. All this said, I tend to play it safe with my own sites. I always include such terms as "Get Full Access to...:, "Click Here For a FREE Tour" or "CLICK TO JOIN" etc. etc. while including the paysite name either in the link itself or in supporting text.
