CC Processing Question

Say you had your own merchant account. And, you had a 3rd party doing the processing for you. And, that 3rd party processor went belly up. What would happen to your account and rebills? Anything? Nothing?

What do you think?

I would imagine the merchant account would be fine, but kiss any rebills good-bye. BWDIK

Depends on who the third party is - I know with the ones I have they are dont through my bank, but the processing gets done by another company - if that company were to go away then the accounts would just be moved to whatever new processor the bank replaced it with

Processors have historically said that the information is theirs and the client list is theirs as well. Remember all the people trying to bail from Ibill when it was evident they were going sideways.

People are still crying for that money.

I had understood Mitch and a few others saying that there was a grey area on it effecting your merchant account as well. Of course Im not sure why or how or maybe my memory is failing.

Processing is the weakest link for the entire business. Ive often said if Visa wakes up one day and says no more then we all start to do a pee pee dance to figure things out.

While thats not likely any thing is possible.

The scammers in this business have infested the processing side of the world. Think about it. When you have a company composed of ex Ibill employees and spammers . . . do you think your money is really safe there?

Visa has caught on and Ive pinned a thread for MONTH about CISP compliancy. Buying a shell company to be grandfathered only seems to work for about a year.

Then you have Epassporte operating by their own rules...moving money out of accounts to "safeguard" it becasue there isnt any activity for over 120 days? Who does Hollywood Chris Mallick think hes fooling?

My guess is that money is going where it can draw interest and finance movies with the beautiful people. With Epassporte losing the gambling customers and US banks refusing to work with them because they cling to those offshore clients...makes you wonder how things will end up.

Then you have the ACH gateway fraud as I mentioned in the other thread being committed. Even the guardians and experts of that area of processing wont make a stand against the scammers either. Theyd rather try and manipulate someone else to do their dirty work.

All of these problems suddenly make KB's Pure Vanilla more attractive but then theres an entire different set of problems associated with a prepaid card with distribution being the main one.

Sure are a lot of new processors showing up at each and every show. Personally Id do my research on any of them before even considering putting them in my cascade.

Business relationships can make you or break you. I want to know who Im working with when they are holding my money.

Bringing up Ibill/Globill etc have no bearing on the question asked. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Those transactions belong to the merchant account holder, not the bank, and can be shopped to other places for processing.

BTW- PureVanilla REALLY needs to pay attention to the clients they're already servicing, before anyone takes them seriously as anything more than a 5th tier alternative.
