Unhappy hosting

I started a couple sites - larrysbabes.info and larrys-babes.com.
I did not make many sales. I started out with a basic web hosting plan from cirtex. My site was suspended for using too much resources.
They want to sell me a dedicated server hosting for a higher monthly fee. How is cpu usage measured ? How do I know if they a just jacking me to make more money ? I do not really want to pay for a dedicated server since I am not making the sales to pay the higher fee. Should I try another hosting company ? Any recomendations ? Should I run my own server ? If I run my own server I need a fixed IP right ? I Would basic dsl support the traffic ? I do not want to pay for my own dns computers and my own dedicated server if I dsl will not support the traffic and I need a T1.

Hello Larry,

There are so many variables that could be affecting this. If you would like please contact me directly and I will ask one of our Administrators to review it for you.

In the meantime some areas that you should review is:

1. How much traffic, ie bandwidth have you been using?
2. is your host familiar with dealing with adult traffic?
3. Does your site perform a lot of DB queries?
4. What type of a site is it?

Anyway if you would like some assistance let me know and we will do our best to give you an independent 3rd party opinion (and yes if you do need different hosting I hope you will consider us but we can help with or without your business).

They suspend you then want to sell you something? Use your instincts

As for hosting your sites from home that is not a good idea.

btw I have heard only heard good things about caro.net

A woman is like beer. They look good, they smell good, and you'd step over your own mother just to get one!

Compare some different hosting companies and see which ones offer the best rates with the bandwidth and space you need.

I would not recommend setting up a server from home, get a virtual host where the servers are in secured facilities.

ATCI Hosting is a company that allows adult domains and they have various virtual hosting packages to choose from. You can also upgrade as needed and they have semi-dedicated and dedicated servers.

You need to look at how many GB monthly transfer you need for those sites, how much disk space you need for your data and how many domains you can have with your hosting account.

I used Cyberwurx on a recent project, I had an email sent to say I was approaching my bandwidth limit so I just paid for an upgrade. Nice and simple just as it should be...

Hosting at home is never reasonable - look at your maximum upload speed (this is the max download speed for the other end) - then imaging 10, 100, or even a thousand (hopefully) members and potential members sharing this bandwidth.

A pay site (mainstream or adult) should never be hosted anywhere but at facility(ies) that can support the type of traffic the site can generate.

Hosting is not really expensive compared to even a few years ago. If you figure I can get a very nice dedicated or virtual package for for less than the business phone package at my mainstream business, it's a steal.

If you can't turn at least a few hundred bucks per month on a pay site - some thing's wrong.

Start out with a quality shared hosting package from an adult-friendly host. Search the boards and you'll find plenty to choose from.

Once you have a good deal of traffic (and are making at least $1,000 a month), you'll want to migrate to an entry-level fully-managed dedicated hosting package.
