Seems like there's a brand new LL Every Day

Seems like everyone wants to start their own LL these days... I wonder why the sudden popularity in them? I also wonder how many of these will be around in a year given how much work it is. My view is that it is currently a type of fashion statement for many webmasters... everyone needs to have their own TGP, MGP, LL, Blog, Review Site, Message Board, etc. What do you think, and does it bother you or are you fine with it? :)

MadMax 2005-03-18 05:27 PM

Being a relative newbie to the LL game myself, I have to be fine with it :D

However, it's certainly not for everyone. The hundreds of hours I've put in doing designs, advertising reviews, and everything else are not really for the squeamish, to say nothing of promotion. If I wasn't a dedicated sort of person I may have bailed a couple months in. It's certainly a ton of work and doesn't really show much of a return for months, but for me I feel it's worth it. Then again, I'm looking at the long term. I think that as with any type of site, a large percentage of new LLs probably either die or go stagnant within a few months.

Mavic 2005-03-18 06:03 PM

Being new to this business, I've on a couple occasions felt that running my own TGP might be a requirement to get traffic since a lot of the places my buddy gets his traffic from are no longer accepting parteners or are pay submit only.

I'm hoping I can get to making decent free sites before that closes up the way TGPs have (or has it already, I've not submitted to any yet).

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

'nuff said. ;)

this board is one of the reason everybody wants their own link list :D and everybody doing SEO work knows that link lists are at the top of the food chain for SE traffic and they all want to get a piece of it

msanchez 2005-03-19 10:44 AM

Even in my short time making and submitting freesites I have noticed a crap load of brand spanking new LLs.

I figure they will come and go and the ones where its apparent that its a focus for the webmaster running it will be the 1 out of 50 or so that is actually worth submitting too and will survive.

Thumbler 2005-03-19 11:59 AM

I think there are still probably about 100 new TGPs for every new linklist. I see mine as a long term project, I'm planning on it still being here in a year, and in a year after that etc etc.

How does one make money from having their own link list?

Just curious.

Primarily by listing your own sites and advertising sponsor sites on your pages :)

I agree. I've noticed that my site is sucking up new keywords from Yahoo almost on a weekly basis.

I created Filthy Earl's Filthy Fucking Links because it better fits my overall strategy. I have two TGPs, one which I update, one which I don't even look at since it's merely a facade for one of my domains that I sub free sites from. Though Earl is faaaaaaaaar from complete, it will be a wonderfully filthy site and will serve as my hub. I tend to believe that a link list offers more flexibility for the owner than say, a TGP.

When it comes to link lists popping up everday, most of them will die off fairly quickly, just like most TGPs, as their owners realize that it takes forever and ever and ever to make money directly from them. I wonder what the life expectancy is for the link lists that are started by copying the recips of an established site?

I find dialers, trojans, and exit console hell works the best in terms of revenue/unique visitor. |thumb

A few months of countless hours reviewing and trying to find submits while simply burning bandwidth.
6 months to a year to get some descent traffic, while spending countless hours reviewing and finding submits without making a profit.
Another 6 months figuring out how to make money from a LL, while spending countless hours reviewing and possibly breaking even.
Thousands and thousands more reviews, black lists, cheaters and everything else, and if set up correctly, you should start to see a profit :D

I must admit that finding submits is proving to be a bit harder than I was expecting

Maybe we should try reciprocal submissions. You put me on your tables and I'll put you on mine.

I sub to 48 ll per site and some of those I don't even know who they are. But I see that a lot of the guys and gals that post here have ll and some are not on my sub list.

Thumbler I haven't officially met you but I've seen and read some of your post.

I have no problem with putting your recip on my list. Whatta ya say?

Thumbler 2005-03-19 09:39 PM

Presmar, you are very welcome to add me to your submit list and I'll add you to mine. I just need to start building some free sites now :)

Consider it done..Bought some fresh content today and I'll be subbing my next two free sites probably within a couple days.

plateman 2005-03-20 12:24 AM

The best way to get submitts is links machine and hang the boards and borrow links from other LL, it takes a good many links to start a LL and when the people see hits from a new referer in there logs most will start subbing to you and trade with other LL on there submitt page and before you know it you will hate reviewing..

110% true. You better be well prepped to spend 1-2 years digging your heels in to make a single buck...

And just when you start making a buck, Google takes a dump on you and your traffic drops by half and your submitters start hating you and leave in droves and you go home and you cry and you want to die.

(I'm not bitter.)

Its very interesting hearing how much work is entailed in running a link list. I just make free sites.and I've got no ambitions at present anyway to go the LL route. I actively enjoy the creation process of making sites(not the submitting, that's a pain).
How many of you LL owners I wonder actually enjoy running an LL?
Cheers

Yeah, and your pr7 site becomes a pr4 again, your mom gets sick and you get backlogged with 3000 submissions because you have to take care of her and not it, and the more you review, the more submissions you get, the sites get shittier because your usual submitters have left because you didnt have time to review or your traffic dropped and then, one day, your script stops working....
so..what ya gonna do now? Hmmm, just got a check from some sponsor so I guess I'll fix the script and start over..hehe

I agree that this board has definately fueled the popularity of the LL format. What used to be a rag-tag group of a handful of LL sites is now an established website format with certain standards, and a community of webmasters who support and recognize it. This board has given LL's a voice in the adult world. My prediction is that now that the LL concept is picking up steam we'll continue to see an explosion in new sites (much like the ongoing TGP explosion), and perhaps more hybrids that incorporate blogs and FHGs, etc. I'd also expect our community to fraction off as the LL webspace becomes more crowded.
