Hosting GreenguyandJim and Link-O-Rama
We have decided to do this publicly. Greenguy and I are looking for a new hosting company. We will be accepting offers at greenguyandjim@greenguysboard.com for hosting greenguysboard.com, link-o-rama and many others.
There are a few things we do not want to hear from support of any prospective company. Here is a short list to give you the idea. An answering machine when we call for support No answer when calling I am the NT guy, our UNIX guy won't be in until tomorrow. Yes, we have 24 hour support, here is my cell number. That is not our responsibility, it's your techs. I'm sorry, we don't do backups. One of your servers needs a part. I just sent a guy downtown. We don't offer telnet because we can't track the amount of bandwidth you use with it. We don't offer remote rebooting We will need at least 3 servers. We will need mirroring, secure shell, mail/pop server for all domains and daily backups. We will be moving in excess of 300 domains. When we move, we don’t want to touch a thing and we don’t want any downtime. We will also need to contact some of your biggest clients. While the cost of hosting is a factor, the features will mean more to us than anything else. We are both strong believers in “you get what you pay for”. As you can see from above, we are really not asking for much. We want guarantees that if there are any problems, they will be taken care of quickly and nothing will ever be lost. If you can give us more than we are asking for, please mention that in your proposal. We are anxious to move but we do have time to make the right decision. |
The only time I EVER gave hosting advice is when I was with Al, at Strictly.
Now that they sold to another company, I am not comfortable enough to recomend them. Sorry guys. Good luck in the search. |

I spoke with my host in regards to this thread, he will be contacting you within the next few, Im not gonna pump anyonthing or anyone and say they are this and are not that. What I will say is I never once in the last 2 years have gotten any of the bullshit excuses above, and my stuff is always up thank |buddy| |
Well I think you already know that I'm at M3 Server. They have always been there when I needed then and I'm very happy with them. I have two dedicated box with them.
When I accidentally deleted a domain on a Sunday evening they had me backup from their backup within a few hours, never even needed my backup. :) |
I agree with Cleo. When hubby was trying to upgrade our posting board and the database became corrupt, M3 Server had it back up and running in no time from their daily backup. |shake|

Marie and I can't speak too highly of M3 - we've been around a few hosts since 1998 and they're definitely top our list.

You get all this at National-Net.com. I'm not affiliated, just a happy customer. They have a very competent 24/7 support, and even tricky stuff gets resolved in no time, regardless when I contact them.

Just so everyone is clear on one thing - we have ZERO problems with our current hosting (co-location thru Phat Servers) just that the guy we're going thru is just that - one man. These last few days have pretty much fucked him for life - LOL
Also, without mentioning any names, my previous host (before the current one) was a nobody before my site got big....and became a nobody soon after I left :) Ass kissing is not necessary, but is greatly apprecaited :D |

My tech guys got a Work Order from one of our customers today and the guys forwarded it to me so I thought I would follow up. You and I have known each other for years and I have never even asked you for your business, so needless to say I am not a pushy host.....but I did not want you to change hosting companies and me not at least let you know that I want your business. Needless to say everything you listed is SOP for the 30 some-odd employees of NatNet, so that part should be easy. We will be a little more expensive, but the difference will be pocket change and will be *well* worth it. Hey Greenguy, so you're leaving Phatservers because they only have one guy for techsupport? You've been in the biz a while so I'm sure you know who most of the reputable dedicated providers are. What are your opinions or experiences with ISPrime and CandidHosting?

Another satisfied NatNet client here... Tony and his crew are some of the nicest people to deal with, 24 hour per day tech support with real techs (not just some guy at an answering system taking notes for someone the next day), and a full tech tracking system for work orders and support - so you know what is going on, and you know how long it took... and you know someone is paying attention.

Phatservers has nothing to do with our move. We are colocated there and the guy we are using to take care of our servers is getting out. Right now, there are no hosts that we won't look at for the move. Like I said, while the pricing is important, the features mean much more to us. We really want this to be our last move for some time. |
Has anyone ever tried Verio? I use them for a site which is hosted in London and have found them excellent. The 24/7 tech support number is re-routed through to the USA.

SomeCreep...I use Candid and cant say that I have ever had a problem that couldnt be resolved...that said, I like the fact that they have icq and they man it 24/7...just wish they had a few extra "more" knowledgeble people around both shifts. And recently heard that one of their best was leaving for "something else"
I was hosted originally at (I believe) the same place GG was long ago and went to Candid when I heard of some problems. I pay alot more as I demand certain things (seperate IPs for all 300 domains, daily D/B B/Us etc.) but to me its worth it. Im getting ready to do some split hosting as I hate sticking everything with one host no matter who :) |

You know I was thinking I could give you space on http://cleocrap.com . It's run on an old antique Mac laptop, never gets backed up, only has a few hours of battery backup, and is only connected with a 256k upload ADSL line, but it would be real cheap as far as cost of hosting goes. :D

We use http://www.splitinfinity.com and we're VERY satisfied. Not only do we get personal cell phone numbers of the techs, but we can also send text messages to their cell phones via Sprint PCS on the web. So if my server is down, I just go to sprintpcs.com and type in a text message to him and it's back up within usually about 5-10 minutes.
We rarely experience downtime and the longest we've ever been down was for about 20 minutes. We're VERY VERY happy with them and the price kicks ass too! |

Phatservers is my host and those guys are great. Good small company that will work with you on a personal level and good prices too. So good luck with the move.

Jim & I both have calls to make today - from the looks of it, most of my stuff will go one place, Jim's stuff, this site & some of my other stuff will go to another - there's even other things thrown into the mix that are still up in the air. One thing I know for sure - this will be the LAST time I switch hosts - too much fucking stress. |
Switching hosts isn't so bad as long as you do it in your own time. But switching the way we did was awful :)
