I think you're right - its a bit of a "mind fuck" to tell someone its totally free then also ask them for a credit card. I honestly think $1 and cheaper trials or sign-ups are better...

Got this email this AM as well. Not a good move for submitters IMHO. Not only does it add his links to header/footer it removes any design and layouts. Ouch! Makes all the galleries look the same?...
