I don't see any reason in our modern society to own a gun. On all the occasions that I have been a victim of violence having a gun would have not helped me at all.

As far as the right to bare guns then why not a cannon a or tactical nuclear weapon?

Our society glamorizes guns and they are looked on as a status symbol so they are used as a means to an end.

Guns don't kill people with guns kill and if they didn't have a gun then they would have to resort to throwing stones or maybe, just maybe, actually speaking to each other.
Removing guns from our society would not make a difference. Look at the UK, then banned guns, then the crooks went to knives, last I heard they are trying to ban knives. The right to carry a weapon is written into our history in order to give our country and its citizens the ability to overthrow the government if need be. There is more to owning a gun than just shooting people. I think there needs to be a limit on the guns because of the crazed fucks out there, I think the checks on the guns could be stiffer, but the right to have a handgun is my right and would fight tooth and nail to keep that right especially when it comes to protecting my family.

Sure you were shot and had no chance, and that REALLY sucks, the person who did it should be in prison or dead. Being a paramedic for years I have seen my share of gunshot wounds and I don't like to see anyone shot or hurt in anyway, but if it comes down to me or the person who is threatening me or my family he is going down. Even if you banned guns people would still get them and use them. Drugs are illegal, people still use em. Booze was illegal and people still drank.

As far as today's society there are still plenty of reasons to have a gun, here is just one reason:

Hunting, reduces the ever growing population of wildlife that can ruin crops and cause property damage. In the state of Michigan more deer are killed by cars than by hunters. This is because they are breeding so fast out here. Hunting could be to eat, protect their crops, or thin the herds.

Again not trying to get into a heated debate with you on it, and I do hate that this happened to you, but its not the guns as you and I have both said its the people. Just reminds me of the tobacco lawsuits. It's not the cigarette manufacturers fault that someone gets cancer, its their own. People need to take responsibility for their issues. Just like the bar owner needs to take responsibility for the security of the people in his establishment.
