I am totally, totally freaking out!!

My mother has been visiting since Thursday..
Last night we were going upstairs to eat dinner, I was behind her on the steps and all of a sudden she lost her balance and went over the steps. She must have landed on the dehumidifier..anyway, she cracked her head..we called the ambulance..
she's in the hospital now with 4 broken ribs, a broken shoulder bone and 9 staples in the back of her head..gash was like a v (the end of the humidifier bucket exactly..)
She has osteoperosis, therefore the broken bones..
We have no bannister on the steps at the moment, there are only 6 of them..she fell on the 3rd one..
I feel so fucking responsible it's not funny..She was lying on the floor, eyes wide open but unresponsive, blood pouring from her head and I thought she was dead..She came around in a few minutes but was totally disoriented, didnt know she was here, etc..took a few hours till she remembered everything except the fall..
So now she will be staying with me for about 2 weeks, or till the doc says she can go home to Florida. She'll probably be in the hospital till maybe later today or tomorrow, depends on what the surgeon has to say (he is the one who makes her decisions because the were afraid of internal injuries cause ofthe ribs and he ordered a cat scan of her chest and head last night..all came out ok)...
You need to make every moment with loved ones special because you never know what the next moment in life will bring..
