So I'm getting my feet wet as a LL owner
and I'm starting to see what you more experienced guys have been bitching about all this time.
![]() So I have a question for my litter mates from the lastest surge of LL start-ups as well as the old timers. Does it pay off to be somewhat lenient while reviewing in the beginning, turning a blind eye to minor rules violations, or should I play hardball? So far I'm blacklisting people who submit TGP galleries, which I clearly state I don't accept, but I'm letting such things as wrong category and the odd outgoing link over the limit of three slide. BTW, my rules are pretty standard. The benefit of "leniency" is that I fill up my DB faster so there's actually something there for surfers to watch, but on the flipside I might get a reputation for being a sucker and the overall quality of my site could suffer. Already I'm getting some pretty outrageously crappy submits. ![]() On a positive not I have to say that of the few (10 +/-) submits I get per day, those coming from GG&J members are of notably higher quality. Thanks! Opinions appreciated. |cool|

As a fellow LL start-up, my opinion is to be lenient towards anything that doesn't hurt the surfer while attempting to retain some level of quality. We've all sub'd to the wrong category and it's super easy to change that on our end. As you may have seen in my thread the other day about the use of incorrect recips, the consensus was to let it slide. When a link list is new, the submitters are doing us more of a favor than we are doing by listing them. With out that content, no on will ever bother to bookmark or even look around very long. Of course, that doesn't mean that we have to grab our ankles and let them gangfuck us either.

What he said. If it doesn't hurt the surfer an extra link out or something is fine. I still let that go for a good submitter. But blind links the surfer will think is a link to the free pictures he came to see is never acceptable. The surfer will think your site has no free picture links and will not come back.

I'm also fighting with submitted redirecting freesites; and trying to bann them all, because as Ramster already said it's not good for my bookmarkers

Don't get discouraged; it's usually the last key that opens the lock...

Great advice everyone.
I'd add once you get enough good stable submitters you can then maybe tighten up a little bit. |

Thanks everybody. I agree that beggars can't be choosers. As long as it doesn't hurt the surfer sounds like good advice. I think I'll have to start keeping a keener eye on quality, though.
