Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

A new experiment I'd like to try....
I've been playing around with this idea in my head for a while, and I'm almost done working out the code for it. It's a bit communistic, but I thought it would interesting experiment to try out to see if it couldn't benefit everyone involved.
The way it works is like this: - There's a page that displays a certain number of links that link to free hosted galleries/free sites. A sort of mini-linklist. - Those certain number of links (say 50) are chosen, at random, from a pool of a fixed number of links in a database (a pool of 1500 links for example). - In exchange for a one way link from a site (say your linklist) to the page, you would be alloted a certain number of spaces in the pool. The number allocated to you would depend on the PR of the site you link from to the page. For example if you linked to the page from a site with a PR of 3, you would be allocated 50 places out of the 1500. Ratios could look as follows: PR0-1 = 10/1500 PR2-3 = 50/1500 PR4-5 = 100/1500 PR6+ = 150/1500 Obviously the higher your PR the greater chance you have at having your link displayed on the page during any given period (I thought the page could refresh twice daily). - You would have complete control over the slots allocated to you. Meaning that you could update and change the sites you link to (provided they are relevant to the theme of the page). They would need to be approved, obviously, but only to prevent illegal stuff from making it onto the site. Everything else would be up to you, and all you would need to do is log in to a webmaster section to make the changes. - As for me, I wouldn't have any links in the database. My only compensation would be (for maintaining the page and bandwidth) is to have an ad/keyword heavy write up for a paysite on the page. Every other link would belong to those who have a link directed to the page. So what are the advantages of this system? - First, there would be no outbound links. Having a bunch of sites link one way to a keyword heavy page might result in a higher spot on google (it's an experiment afterall, so I don't know if this is true). (All links to FGH's would have a rel="nofollow" tag inside the anchor) - It's very low maintenance on your part (no sites to create.. you could just use FHG's as your links in the pool) - Anyone can participate.. from lowly beginner to the well established. Anyway, what do you guys think? I'll have an example of this up within the next couple days (maybe even tonight). Like I said, I'm almost done the code. The site is already functional, it's just the webmaster section that needs finishing/tweaking. If you're interested in this experiment, and want to participate... just write me a note or reply in in this thread. Also, any ideas/feedback are always welcome. |

Ahhh ... sweet pity. Where would my love life be without it?

OK so if I understand it right ... you will only have 1500 links (places) in your database. And what would happen when you would fill these 1500 places?
Otherwise, count me in. I always love to experiment ![]()

I figured having 10 (1500/150) pr5 sites link to a single page would probably make that page go up in the search engines considerably. Or having 15 pr 3 sites.. keep in mind the ratios aren't set in stone yet. Thanks for the interest... I'll keep you posted. Last edited by Tinkerbell; 2007-07-19 at 05:57 PM.. |

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless
