Less spread out maybe?

Windows in the hospitality suites that open to let in fresh air maybe?

Fresh air in Vegas? No way!

I still laugh my ass off knowing the webmaster retreat room had a nice balcony that we could look at through the smoke and the locked doors.

Yeah I sat next to one of those locked doors gasping the little bit of air that was leaking through the crack in the door.

If I go to vegas again I may bring scuba gear for when I'm in the rooms.

Here's the shit thing about this - and it all boils down to money:

The Mandalay Bay website says they are SOLD OUT of rooms for Wednesday Jan 5th - and the prices for the rooms for the days before & after are already jacked up. So, unless you have a casino host already, you're stuck reserving your room thru Rose Tours.

Now, those of you that gamble a fair amount know that your room will NOT get comp'd if you booked it thru a travel agent, which means you have no chance of getting your room paid for, regardless of how much you gamble. I made this mistake the 1st 2 times I went to the Venetian. The last 2 or 3 times we went there, we booked our own, stayed a week or so & ended up getting most, if not all of our nights for free. I think last year I ended up getting 5 of the 7 nights for free, all my meals paid for & my mini-bar tab wiped clean. My bill for the week at the Venetian was just over $400 - you can't beat that with a fucking stick!

Hell - I spent a week at the Tropicana last year on vacation & my total bill was $46!!!

I really dread the thought of staying at another hotel during the convention, but I know I can get what will amount to a free room at the Venetian or Tropicana for this convention. The Trop might be the way to go, cause I can walk across the street & pick up the tram

Either way, this is just another money grubbing ploy in my book.

I don't gamble so I have to pay for my room no matter where I stay so…

If I do Vegas again, loved visiting the county and going hiking but really don't like Vegas, I'll probably stay here for about $49 a night seeing as it has a kitchen and broadband in the room. www.extendedstay.com/locations.html

Nice find Cleo. I've always stayed at Harrah's since it's only $50 a night and a very short walk, maybe 3-4 minutes.

There's no way in hell I'm paying $500 a night for a room. And how can one of the nights be sold out already? Who's the clueless ass that decided to change it?

They're sold out to non-convention people, but a block of rooms has been set aside for us. Like GG said, you have to book through that travel agent though.

Cleo - Have you stayed at any of those Extended Stay places before? The website says they don't offer high speed...maybe just in Vegas? Still, that looks like a great option for travel anywhere in the country!

Very handy tool MML....very handy for someone who's never been to Vegas before.

GG how exactly does comp'ing work? I figured you'd have to lose a big chunk of change before you get comp'd a room....I'm pretty clueless about the whole thing

No I haven't stayed at one. I saw their TV ad a few months ago and bookmarked it. The TV ad did say high speed computer access in every room.

This page say that there is a data port in every room.
http://www.extendedstay.com/esa.html

Guess it would be best to call them and find out what they consider a data port.

The last hotel I stayed it, Universal Studios, had an ethernet drop, they called it a data port, in the room that gave me broadband. Not as good as WiFi but took care of my needs. I'm guess that this is what Extended Stay has.

Getting free nights at hotels in Vegas isn't based on how much you lose, it's based on how much you spend. You get a card and they track how much you are spending. I believe...

But they know the percentages are in their favor so people who spend a lot will overall lose many many more times than win. So they give you free hotel to lose in their casino.

Ive been going to vegas for a long time. I blame my parents dragging my ass there when I was 13 years old and have been hooked since then. I hit my first royal flush on a quarter poker machine when I was 16 years old. Luckly I only had 1 quarter in and won $62.50. If I had the max 5 in I am sure they would have carded me 2K win if I had max coin in and was legal age.

Anyhow I know a thing or two about how to get comps.

There is a formula on how they equate it (Cant really remember it)

but ill give it a try. If you play the slots/poker machines most casinos have a rating about every $20 played you get 1-10 +++ points. (Depends on the casino) the more points you have the comps and the buffets are given.

If you play the tables such as black jack, craps etc etc, whatever your fav table game is. I beleive that they credit/point is $5-25 an hour of game play. So if you site down at a black jack table with $100 and you play for 2 hours you can earn 10-50 of these points given.

I saw a thing on tv a while back the pit boss watches and figures what your bets are. So the best bet is to bet more when the pit boss is watching, to build your player points up.

Visit the casino clubs booth for a players club card for the casinos. If you play table games ask them if they have a seperate card for the table games. Some casinos track your play with just the slot club cards some dont.

Also never hurts to ask the dealers for comps if you win some or lose some, they will call their pit boss.

I got comp rooms & meals when I was visiting Vegas and Laughlin back in the early to mid 90's. Infact in 89 - 90-1/2 Vegas & Laughlin paid my rent. I was on a nice lucky streak for a while..

I mentioned my trip to the Tropicana above - the wife & I lost a total of around $1000 at the casino, but we were playing every day (slots, roulette, black jack & a couple of other games) & like Ramster & Slick Rick said, you get a card & it keeps track of how often you play & how much you're playing with. The higher the bet - $1 slot machines instead of 25 cent ones, $25 Black Jack tables instead of $5 - the better off you are

Plus, if you set up a line of credit with them before you get there, they like you even more

A little word of advice. Dont ever sit at a black jack table where the dealer is Asian. (No offence to the Asians, what so ever) but they are there to work and they are not very friendly dealers. At least thats what ive expeirenced in the past. Again No offence to the Asians..
