10 December - Storm Comin'

Yesterday the gutter press newspapers' front pages were filled with headlines along the lines of "Weather Bomb To Hit Britain" and news that the following day (today), we are going to be hit with extreme bad weather. On the news show on the radio the news anchor asked the weatherman if we were really going to be hit with this bad weather. He replied "Yes but..... It is December. You get hit by bad weather in December. What we will see will be 'typical December weather'....". But "Weather Exactly What You Would Expect It To Be" don't make good headlines, and don't sell papers. "Weather Bomb To Hit Britain" does.

This morning I got up late (due to watching movies 'till 2am) and the weather outside is - "a beautiful sunny day"!

It's fucking cold here this morning.

Good Morning

Surprise, we have another dumping of rain heading our way again. This is good news because we have been in drought conditions for years. Only problem is that with all that drought there will probably be mudslides for some. Glad I didn't wash the car while out xmas shopping yesterday.

I love when Americans talk about how *cold* it is.

Temps are set to actually rise above freezing here this week. A rare occurance for Winnipeg in December. No complaints this winter so far. Not much snow yet either.

Where I'm at (from looking at the map lines on "someoneorother's" projection of the world) is slightly further north than Winnipeg (sort of about in line with Calgary and Saskatoon). We are at about freezing now (according to the weather forecast, I haven't checked) but it is set to get colder over the next few weeks. No snow yet, but there was some further north today, and it is forecast to come south.

I just bought another duvet, bringing my total tog rating up to 20.8 and I got my extra heater out of store at the weekend (the one that uses about a million gigawatts of electricity a microsecond, but keeps me nice and warm whatever the weather). So I'm ready.

The good news - despite this cold snap, this year was the warmest on record on average. And out of the 15 hottest years ever, fourteen were this century (which would be the entire fucking century).

So hooray for global warming. I'll chip in to help buy the polar bears a rubber dingy each, but still.... Hooray for global warming.
