Is Godaddy going bad?

For the fourth time in a row I've had a new domain - which I'd changed the nameservers on - revert back to "parked" status at Godaddy. I know I'm not the only one this has happened to.

And today I find this thread via Board Tracker telling a tale of Godaddy woe.

I'm starting to feel a little nervous about Godaddy, and I really don't want to because they've been good until recently (and cheap!).

Can anyone suggest any other good $8.95 domain sellers? I'm not going to bail out yet, but I'm now to that nervous point where I want to see other options.

IMO you get what you pay for.

Some companies become victims of their own success and start to have one or two technical problems due to the bulk of business they do.

I pay more for my domains because I consider them to be critical to what I am doing. I checked out GoDaddy and they look professional etc.... but I have a paranoid nature, coz I know the world and his wife buy domains from there.

1) I never buy the cheapest. (Mid range price suits me)
2) I never take the front packet off a stores shelf. (Always the box further back)
3) I never place domains on the same IP. (More paranoia than anything else)
4) I never buy ............. you get my drift

I haven't had a problem yet with godaddy..but in answer to your specific question try:

http://www.namecheap.com/

they are a little bit more than godaddy..but it's a good alternative.

You may want to consider Domain Discover they treat me right and you can update or change info online with just your password no hassles. You can lock and unlock domains from your control panel as well as synchronize all domains. They aren't cheap ($32 per year, 2 year min I think, plus a deep discount for ten year registrations [down to less than $10]) but they are hassle free

The feature I like best with them is auto-renewals. If you prefer they will send you reminders for a couple months before a domain expires.

I love GoDaddy and obviously haven't had a problem. Changing nameservers takes all of 3 minites tops. But I'm sure there are other registars out there at $10-$15 per year.

Surfn, $32 per domain? That's steep.

$16 per year two year min. As I mentioned if you register or renew for 10 years it's less than $10 per year. I don't cut costs on domain registrars or hosting I believe in reliability

The choice is up to the individual as always.

I'm hearing trouble with them from other webmasters. Personally I use DirectNic.

Before the board made nighty night for a day or 2 I had this same exact issue. When i wrote Go Daddy about it they say name servers change only when a domain is reported for Spamming (cough cough... BULLSHIT!) I have over 100 domains with go Daddy and up until a month ago I never had an issue, knock on wood... LOUDLY!!!!!

Im watching them closely to see what happends over the next few weeks, but in any case I will be moving some domains around to ensure some eggs are handled better than others.

I've used 5 or 6 different registrars and I like godaddy the best. I've never had any problems with them and I love their 24/7 phone support. They're all I use now.

It's good to see that most people don't have a problem. This calms the nerves a bit.

It's possible that the "Simple Registration" process could be behind the parked nameserver issue... now I think about it this never happened when I did the whole painful signup process.

I originally used directNIC but became a cheapskate. I still have a few domains there, hedging my bets... and directNIC IS a good reseller.

Ditto - nearly
I've got nearly a hundred with them and as my domains at other registrars get close to renewal time, I transfer them over to GoDaddy.

The *only* problem I've had is when I tried to transfer 4 domains at once - one of them got lost in the mix and wasn't transferred. A few emails fixed it up though, and since then I *transfer* one at a time. (I'll register multiples at a time though.)

GoDaddy has been good to me. Did your domains revert to 'parked' status while they were locked?

Good service / price ratio for me has been Domainname systems I own a few domains, and I have always been able to keep everything straight over there without any major issues.

DirectNIC is owned by friends, people I trust very much in this business. You wouldn't be far off there...

Natnames.com from National-Net, another good service run by people I trust.

:-)

It's all good.

I've used some shit domain name companies in my time. Until I was enlightened by DD

I agree with Cleo, DirectNic are excellent, and I wouldn't use anyone else.

I have used GoDaddy for a couple of years now and not had any problems. As a matter of fact, I just transferred 7 more domains from DirectNic over to GoDaddy. The only problems with the transfers I had were my mistakes, otherwise it has been smooth sailing with them (lets hope it stays that way )

I honestly think that GoDaddy are so widely used by webmasters that the odds are you will hear about more probs with them.

I don't use 'em anymore, but that's my own choice.

I started using these guys http://www.4u-domainnames.com/ @ $13 per domain and you can lock up transfers too.

GoDaddy allows locking, as I just locked my domains I have there. I don't see what all the fuss is. The only "problem" I've ever had with them wasn't their fault but Verisigns since they wouldn't release a domain I had there and xfer to GoDaddy, due to Verisign being assholes and putting a one year hold on the damn domain.

Now I have to wait for it to expire to get it back.
